Here are time tips to help your pet find a good home when rehoming:
1. Never give pets away for free! All pets should have $50ish fee attached. This helps weed out this looking for a "free" pet who likely won't be able to afford vet care and other essentials. If someone can't invest $50 into a new family member, they aren't the one. PASS! You don't have to take the fee in the end, but never advertise without it!
2. Never deal with a potential adopter that won't talk to you on the phone. You get a better feel for people when you speak in person. If a potential adopter only wants to text or FB message that's a huge red flag. PASS!
3. If potential adopter's have other pets you have the right to ask them if they are FIXED and current on vaccines. Ask for their vet info and call and confirm. If they are not fixed and current on vaccines, that is not a home you should adopt to. PASS!
Good caring homes will 100% not care if you ask all these questions or any others. They will be happy to provide that info to prove what great owners they are. If they get snippy, that's a red flag. PASS! You need to do the simple steps to ensure a good home, you owe it to your pet.
4. Always take the pet you are trying to rehome to potential adopter's house. That way you can kind of do a home visit at the same time. See if dogs get along and how they care for them. NEVER just let someone come pick up an animal from you. Cats will take time to acclimate so ask your adopter to google how to do that beforehand.
5. Use your gut instincts and don't settle. ❤️
