Level 1 OBGYN Hospital Facility
Can be an academic/public/private facility located in an urban, suburban or rural area. The facility should be able to provide sub-specialty services including fertility, family planning, oncology, urogynaecology and fetal medicine. There should be a 24-hour service in all major specialties. Total care beginning from prevention through to rehabilitation, including research and education is available. The center should serve as a referral point in the region or section of the country.
Level 2 OBGYN Hospital Facility
Can be an academic/public/private facility located in an urban, suburban or rural area. The facility should be able to provide a 24-hour medical cover, including obstetrics/gynaecology. Theatre capabilities should be available. Not all OBGYN sub-specialties may be present, and the facility may therefore be unable to provide comprehensive care to OBGYN patients with complicated cases. Educational outreach, research and prevention programmes may however be possible.
Level 3 OBGYN Hospital Facility
Can be an academic/public/private facility located in an urban, suburban or rural area. The facility should be staffed by medical officers with surgical capabilities. There should also be a prompt availability of general practitioners with surgical obstetric expertise where necessary. Operating theatre(s) should be available. In addition, the facility should provide prompt assessment, resuscitation and stabilization of obstetric patients and where necessary, arrange for possible transfer to a facility that provides definitive medical care. The facility should also be able to establish early transfer systems for obstetrics patients with cases that are beyond its capabilities.
Level 4 OBGYN Hospital Facility
Can be an academic/public/private facility located in an urban, suburban or rural area. The facility is a minimally equipped and staffed by Physician Assistants and Nurses only. It includes ANC clinics and run mostly outpatient clinics with no overnight admissions or surgeries.
