    House Rules

    Thank you for partnering with NYSUM and answering the call to serve on the front-lines of NYC! This form must be filled and signed individually by every team member, and submitted no later than 1 month prior to arrival. Individuals who failed to comply will be denied entry.
  • 1. Dorm Room Floors: Men's (4th Floor) & Women's (3rd Floor) Dorm Floors are separated. Men are NOT PERMITTED on the 3rd Floor and Women are NOT PERMITTED on the 4th Floor. On occasion staff of either gender from our maintenance/housekeeping dept. may be present on either floor for temporary work, this is the only exemption. For guests assigned to the 2nd floor, the kitchen is off limits for cooking and storing food items.

    2. Dorm Rooms: There are no keys for the standard dorm rooms. You may lock the door when you are inside, however, the door will need to remain unlocked when you step out of the room. Please try to keep your dorm room tidy; throwing away trash especially on departure days. DO NOT enter dorm rooms and/or meeting rooms NOT assigned to your group. Do not assume unoccupied rooms aren't scheduled for future use. Should you have issues with your assigned rooms, please contact our guest services number provided at orientation or approach our lobby reception staff. We recommend for children under 10 yrs old to sleep on bottom bunks for safety precautions.

    3. Linens: Do NOT take linens and/or toiletries from unoccupied rooms. Just 1 set of linens will be provided per group member for your entire stay, plus basic hand soap & toilet paper. We are NOT able to provide a fresh towel/linens everyday. Take care of the set you receive. Should linens/toiletries be missing, once again please contact our guest services number provided at orientation or approach our lobby reception staff.

    4. Doors and Lights: Keep dorm room doors closed at all times. When leaving rooms, turn off lights, fans, and other appliances. Shut open windows during cold weather. Keys are not provided for rooms, should your door experience a jam please contact our maintenance number provided at orientation or approach our lobby reception staff.

    5. Showers: Showers are limited to 10-15 minutes daily. While showering, though not mandatory, we recommend shower shoes/sandals be worn, but NOT the same pair used for daily traversal. Please be fully dressed when outside of your dorm room and going to/from the showers. Please DO NOT walk in the hallways with just a towel on.

    6. AC and Appliances: TURN OFF the AC UNIT when using hair tools or other high charge electrical appliances. No more than one electrical appliance at a time per room. Failure to do so will potentially blow a fuse. Charging several cell phones, tablets, laptops, etc. is fine.

    7. Building Security:  The NYSUM Campus is secured nightly at 11pm by our Security Staff.  Anyone on our Campus Grounds/ Parking Lot or in the building are required to be in their rooms by 11PM.  Quiet Time on all Dorm Room floors (2nd, 3rd, & 4th floors) is from 9pm - 6AM.  If you return after 11pm due to late a outreach, when returning to the NYSUM Campus, PLEASE GO DIRECTLY TO YOUR DORM ROOM.  No one is to be in the lobby, lounge, hallways, stairwells or elevators at this time as our Security Staff have already secured these areas for the evening.  THANK YOU for being mindful of other guests by keeping the noise level low at all times.

    8. Public Areas and Meeting Rooms: DO NOT hold teachings, meetings or group devotions in public areas: Lounge, lobby, dorm room hallways, kitchen, in front of doors/entrances etc. Meeting rooms must be requested in advance. Please DO NOT enter into any meetings rooms if it has not been reserved in advance. Please contact our guest services number provided at orientation or approach our lobby reception staff for questions. Room availability is not guaranteed if rental wasn't arranged prior to arrival. Brief 5-10 min logistic meetings/debriefs are allowed in lounge/lobby areas as long as the group keeps a moderate tone and are mindful of other guests. Space in our lounge/lobby areas is not guaranteed, especially during our busy seasons. So we recommend reserving a meeting room for your team time if it is available.

    9. Furniture: Feet and/or shoes are not to be placed on furniture (i.e. tables and couches). Cushions and furniture are to be kept in their original place, be it in a public area or dorm room.

    10. Damages: Disruptive horseplay that damages furniture or is inconsiderate of staff and guests, is not permitted. Recurring individuals will automatically be dismissed from NYSUM. Your team will be liable for leaving excess litter and any damages to the following, including but not limited to: NYSUM's elevators, furniture, facilities and/or equipment throughout the building, be it in their dorm rooms (especially upon departure) or elsewhere. You will be fined according to the severity of the damage and waste with a minimum fee of $100. This also applies to rug and/or wall stains.

    11. Dining: Please DO NOT enter the caferteria unless you have prepaid and reserved for meals in advance. We do not take same day requests. here are no refunds for skipped or missed meals. NYSUM does not allow food and/or beverages in dorm rooms, classrooms or lobby area. The NYSUM Lobby is off limits for such use. However, if your team wants to bring food back to our Campus such as pizza or burgers, please ONLY use the portion of our lounge that has Bistro HIGH TOP Tables. We kindly request you clean-up and discard any pizza boxes and such items in our trash container in the lounge.

    12. Dining Cont': In order for NYSUM to provide discounted accommodations and serve nutritious meals at an affordable rates for you our wonderful guests, each team is required to assist in our Food Services on a selected times. This is included in the contractual obligations and house rules your group has agreed to. Teams who fail to comply with this requirement will be automatically invoiced with a “No Show Surcharge" of $50 per occurrence, due upon receipt. Thank You in advance for your kind cooperation.

    13. Dress Code: Dress comfortable but modestly, according to the weather, while on the NYSUM campus and out on ministry. Bring at least 1 pair of pants, even during summer time. A light wind/rain jacket is also recommended. The following items are NOT permitted: mini shorts (including running shorts that are above mid-thigh), miniskirts, dresses/skirts with high and/or over exposing slits, tank-tops, deep V-neck shirts, spaghetti straps/dresses, form fitting and/or see through clothing. Above knee level shorts are allowed if moderate and no higher than mid-thigh, ripped jeans are not recommended but allowed if not too revealing and tears are small/minimum.

    14. Dress Code Cont'.:  Guests are prohibited to walk around barefoot and/or in socks outside of their dorm rooms at all times (this includes going to/from showers).  Flip flops, crocs and/or sandals are fine except during outreaches and kitchen duty (if assigned) where closed shoes are required.

    15. Building Code: Please protect the safety of staff and NYSUM guests by not opening the Entrance Lobby doors for others, nor giving out the building code. On ministry, DO NOT give out NYSUM’s phone number and address.

    16. Rooftop: DO NOT go to the roof of the building. This will set off an alarm. Anyone that goes onto the roof will be fined $250.

    17. Weapons of any kind, such as but not limited to: firearms, knives, pepper spray and similar self-defense items, are strictly prohibited on campus. 

    18. Tobacco, Alchohol, & Controlled Substances: Use of these substances in any form are PROHIBITED from being used at our campus as well as on our grounds (including the parking lot area). Guests who violate this rule will automatically be dismissed from NYSUM.

    19. Respect for Others: Participants should treat all others and themselves with respect. Aggressive, abusive, vulgar, sexually suggestive or violent language and behavior towards others (ex: fighting, threats, insults, cursing, discrimination, etc.) is not permitted. Public displays of affection or intimacy displayed between participants in public or private is prohibited, with the exception of married couples.

Said right dictates that any individual and/or groups who refuse to agree/comply with these guidelines can/may & will be denied entry.  Also, failure to observe them midway during my stay can/may & will result in immediate removal from the premises if deemed necessary – without refund of any kind. I also hereby acknowledge & recognize the NYSUM is not in any way responsible and/or liable for loss and/or damage of any personal items as a result of my personal neglect for their care."
