Selection Criteria
There shall be recognition of athletes, coaches, and media representatives who have demonstrated throughout their career in sports those qualities that clearly identify them as champions in their field(s), professional or amateur.
This recognition shall be permanent and shall be located in a place open to public inspection.
There shall be inducted into the Hall of Fame a maximum of ten (10) persons each year.
Under normal circumstances, each inductee shall have been retired or out of active competition in their sport(s) for a minimum of five years to be eligible for consideration. This criteria does not apply to the special nominees for Male and Female High School Athlete of the Year and for the Professional Athlete of the Year.
To be eligible for induction into the Hall of Fame, the candidate must:
- Be a native of the Greater Knoxville area; or
- Have attended four (4) years of school in the Knoxville area, three (3) of which were senior high school; or
- Be a resident of the Knoxville area for three (3) years.
Resident during coaching, officiating, media, sports administration or athletic career; and
- Not be currently serving as a member of the Greater Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame Selection Committee.
