    Fauquier Community Theatre invites you to audition for Emma: A Pop Musical Stay-at-Home Edition. The production will be rehearsed, produced, and presented online. Then the final show will be streamed in spring/summer 2021.

    Auditioning ages 14 - 23 years old.
  • Location

    Callbacks, rehearsals and performances will be held online.
  • Geographic Region

    Audition submissions are open to the public. While not required, actors are preferred to be residing in general proximity to the theatre's location in Warrenton, Virginia, for example from the counties of: Fauquier, Culpeper, Rappahannock, Orange, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Frederick, Loudoun, Prince William, Fairfax, Arlington, etc., as well as Maryland and the District of Columbia in case the health pandemic improves and the cast is able to meet outdoors for promo photos, etc.

    Audition submissions are due by Friday, March 12, 2021 at 7 pm.

    Friday March 19, 2021 via Zoom beginning at 7 pm. 
  • Read-Through

    For those cast, the read through will take place on Sunday, March 21, 2021 beginning at 2pm.
  • Plot Synopsis

    The Story: Emma, a senior at Highbury Prep, is certain she knows what’s best for her classmates’ love lives, and is determined to find the perfect boyfriend for shy sophomore Harriet by the end of the school year. But will Emma’s relentless matchmaking get in the way of finding her own happiness? Based on Jane Austen’s classic novel, this sparkling new musical features the hit songs of legendary girl groups and iconic female singers from The Supremes to Katy Perry. Girl power has never sounded so good!
  • About the Director Steve McBride

    About the director: Steve McBride holds a Bachelor of Music, in Music Education (vocal concentration) from West Chester University. In addition to his teaching, Mr. McBride has been Music Director/Conductor/Vocal Director of many shows including The Producers, Into the Woods, Les Misérables, Pajama Game, Camelot, South Pacific, Grease, My Fair Lady, Cinderella, The Sound of Music, Trial by Jury, and The King and I. Steve is also very active throughout the area as a vocal coach, accompanist, and conductor. Having taught choral/vocal music in public schools in both Pennsylvania and Maryland, Steve also is the Director of Music Ministries at The Church of the Good Shepherd, Burke, Virginia.
  • Roles

  • EMMA
    Our title character. She is a senior at Highbury Boarding School and considers herself a matchmaker. Smart, fun, and engaged in the lives of those around her, Emma is blind to her own emotions.


    JEFF KNIGHTLY
    A senior at Highbury. Jeff is studious, serious, and finds Emma's focus on matchmaking a frustrating distraction, but he has feelings for her nonetheless.


    HARRIET
    A sophomore at Highbury, a friend of Emma's, and Emma's focus for the show. Harriet is not as confident as Emma, and so she relies on Emma for direction.


    MARTIN
    Attends public school. But he works as a Dishwasher/Busboy at this private high school. He has feelings for Harriet.


    PHILIP ELTON
    Mr. Popular at Highbury. He's running for Student Council President and flirts to get votes. Note: this character doesn't have any solos and would be a great role for a non-singer.


    JANE FAIRFAX
    A wealthy student from Ohio who is touring Highbury to potentially attend. She's seeks fun in all circumstances.


    FRANKIE CHURCHILL
    Pop star. He previously attended Highbury.


    MISS BATES
    Highbury's Principal. She is frantic, eager to bring more students in, and provides a unique comedic element to our show.


    ASHLEY
    Ashley is the arm-candy for Philip as he runs his Presidential campaign. She dreams of being a famous singer.


    WELCOMING COMMITTEE
    These are three girls from your female ensemble. These should be your student council-type girls. Eager, excited, and involved.

    Rehearsal times will take into consideration the cast members' schedules. Please LIST on your audition below any prior commitments (regular or occasional) that may conflict with a rehearsal schedule on weekdays and weekends..
  • Fauquier Community Theatre Policies

    Please note the following FCT policies:If you are cast in a role, there is an annual fee to participate in FCT productions which is $20 for youth up to age 17, $25 for an adult or $50 for a family which includes all adults and children living in your immediate household. (This is the minimum; higher membership levels have extra benefits and are available.) Membership dues will be payable online after the cast list is final.Participation in this production is strictly voluntary and there is no compensation. The participant agrees to hold harmless and indemnify Fauquier Community Theatre - Story Painters, Inc., its Board of Directors, employees, and associated representatives from any and all claims, judgments or settlements resulting from the participant’s involvement in any rehearsals or performances of this show.
