Program Description:
The program will include experts presenting and interactively discussing the scope and current limits of intellectual property protection available to cannabis and CBD businesses, and best practices to maximize the protections for these businesses in today's conflicting maze of regulations.
Panelists:
Amanda R. Conley is a founding partner at Brand & Branch LLP and co-founder of the International Cannabis Bar Association. She helps creative entrepreneurs across a variety of industries protect, leverage, and enforce their intellectual property. She also advises on advertising, marketing, website, and product labeling compliance. Amanda specializes in helping clients navigate highly-regulated industries such as cannabis, hemp, dietary supplements, and emerging technologies. She has been named a Super Lawyers Northern California Rising Star for the past four years.
Scott R. Miller partner in the Intellectual Property group in the Los Angeles office of Sheppard Mullin. Scott is a skilled trial lawyer who represents clients in litigation and non-litigation intellectual property matters, including clients in the cannabis industry. He has served as first chair in numerous patent, trademark, trade secret, unfair competition, false advertising and copyright litigations, as well as litigations regarding intellectual property ownership rights and/or the enforcement or termination of licenses. Scott was named a 2020 "Lawyer of the Year" by Best Lawyers in America for Patent Litigation, is a Martindale Hubbell AV® Preeminent Peer Review Rated Attorney and has repeatedly been recognized by Best Lawyers in America and Southern California Super Lawyers.
Gretchen L. Temeles, Ph.D., is a Special Counsel in the Philadelphia office of Duane Morris and regularly works on cannabis-related matters. Dr. Temeles assists clients in formulating comprehensive global patent strategies to further their business goals. She focuses her practice on patent procurement, patent portfolio management, and IP due diligence in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and chemical industries. Dr. Temeles counsels clients on patent matters encompassing a wide range of technologies including precision medicine and diagnostics, biologics, cannabis and cannabinoids, psychedelic therapeutics, probiotics and nutraceuticals, food processing and food safety. Dr. Temeles works with clients to balance their patent and trade secret portfolios in multiple fields and industries. Dr. Temeles holds degrees from Temple University Beasley School of Law (J.D.); Yale University (Ph.D., Biology); and the University of Pennsylvania (B.A., cum laude).
