Brunswick church new community garden ideas
We have the opportunity to dream dreams about creating a lovely outdoor space in the area by the office entrance & rectory front garden as it has been enclosed and fenced in. It might evolve slowly over a couple of summers but some changes should be easy and cheap. The trees are staying, and there some new grass near the new fence in the interim but this is a great opportunity to find out what would be useful for all the people who use our building. There is a short video on the church Facebook page and website to show how much has changed recently. https://www.brunswickchurch.org.uk/refurb-garden.html

Looking at how we would use the garden
How would you like to use the garden?
This is a semi public space. The rectory front garden is private and we need to consider the residents not only in the rectory but also in the Extra Care Centre. We aren't aiming to be a local park or playground, and there will be times when others won't be allowed in for safeguarding reasons, for example during toddler group. How do you think we might make this work?
What do you think is important for us to consider?
Wildlife
A small pond or similar
Space for performances
Outside electricity points
Colour - not just in the planting
What time of day would you use it?
Mon-Fri daytime
After school
Mon - Fri evening when light/dusk
Mon - Fri evening when dark
Weekend daytime

We can envisage some services being held outside, and sometimes having our monthly Bring & Share meal there after church, but are there any other larger groups who might like to use it?
Looking at the things we should include in the garden
This is a north facing garden so gets very little sunlight
What furniture would you want to use
3-4 seater bench
Individual garden chair
Child size furniture or play things
Picnic table with attached seats
Separate table
Covered area to sit outside if raining
Fire pit
Anything else - please add to the planter section below
I'd probably take things outside from the building
Barbeque area
If we had planters what would you like to see grown and why?
Do you see any problems with the new garden, or is there something about it currently that you'd like to change?
We need to consider all communities, ages and abilities. What should we be thinking about?
Looking to how we achieve this
Obviously the main fundraising focus is the building refurbishment but this is an opportunity we can't miss.
Do you have any ideas about where we could source some help - either money, plants, garden furniture or labour?
Would you like to be involved in an outdoor meeting to get ideas? Just to see how the space feels like now and what we'd like? Maybe a Sunday afternoon? We will meet when the current guidelines allow and we will ensure social distancing.
Yes
No thanks
Maybe but Sunday afternoon doesn't suit
How would you like to be involved in planning or creating the garden?
Please spread the word and share
And track how the garden changes this spring, as well as our sports hall and car park renovations as we will post pictures regularly on our website brunswickchurch.org.uk/refurb/
