About BASICS Devon and Virtual Virgin Money London Marathon
Following the announcement that London Marathon Events plans to stage the world’s first 100,000-person marathon on Sunday 3 October, BASICS Devon is inviting its supporters across the UK – and the world – to be a part of it by running to raise funds in its name, to help save lives.
BASICS Devon is a team of thirteen volunteer doctors. BASICS Devon aims to provide pre-hospital emergency medical care for the sick and injured, in Devon and surrounding counties, offering additional specialist skills, drugs and equipment to treat patients and relieve suffering in the community. The team works closely with the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT), providing clinical advice and support. A number of the team are trained as Major Incident Medical Advisors to support the triage and treatment of casualties in the event of a major incident. It is an entirely voluntary service with the doctors responding 24hrs a day, often first on the scene be it at the roadside, in a field, on a farm or at a home emergency.
On Sunday 3 October 50,000 participants will take on the traditional course from London’s Blackheath to The Mall – an increase of more than 7,000 on the previous finisher record – while another 50,000 people around the globe run the 26.2 miles on the course of their choice, any time from 00:00:00 to 23:59:59 BST, in a virtual event.
The physical and mental health benefits of being active have been brought sharply into focus during the pandemic, and this biggest-ever London Marathon offers more people than ever before the chance to experience these benefits while raising much-needed funds for charity.
Why do they need an EOI form?
BASICS Devon has a limited number of places available, just 3 in the virtual event and is encouraging anyone who was either unsuccessful in the ballot, or would just like to take part in the event to contact them for a chance of taking part. The interest forms will then be reviewed by a panel of Trustees and 3 runners will be chosen.
If you are successful in gaining a place, there is a registration fee of £25 which includes a running vest, official running number, fundraising pack with top tips and digital support on the day and during training, they ask that you raise a minimum sponsorship of £200, which BASICS Devon will help you to achieve.
They look forward to recieving your forms!
