If you are aged 60 or over then we require you to provide a rescue back-up contact (this could be a friend or family member) who would assume full responsibility for the dog if you are no longer able to take care of them at any point. The back-up person must be under 60 years of age and be prepared to care for the dog until the end of its life. This ensures that the dog does not end up back in rescue.

We will complete a virtual video homecheck during the application process. This is to provide advice on settling your dog in and to check the safety and security of your house and garden. We do this homecheck via a video call through WhatsApp, FaceTime or Facebook Messenger so you must have a smart phone/tablet and an account through one of these apps. Rehoming a dog is a big decision and everyone in the home must know about the application and be in agreement of the foster-to-adoption. Is everyone in the home in agreement of the application and committed to taking on a rescue dog?

We cannot rehome any of our dogs with children under 13 years of age as we are unable to assess the dogs before travel. There are no exceptions so stop the application now if you have children under 13. This includes if you are expecting a child in the future (adopting/fostering/pregnant/etc). We only adopt opposite sex dogs together. This is due to dominance and aggression that is more likely to occur between dogs of the same sex. None of our dogs are tested with other pets and small animals. It is your responsibility to keep your other pets safe - they must be in a secure cage/enclosure that the dog cannot destroy. You are responsible if the adoptive dog injures or kills any of your existing pets. You must have a secure location inside of your home where the dog can be left while you are out. This location must not be in the same room as the front door. It is your responsibility to ensure that the dog does not escape from the home and garden. Your garden must have secure solid boundary with a minimum 5ft height at the lowest point. You must also have a padlock added to any garden gates for additional security. Your garden must be dog-proof and have any gaps blocked up so your dog can't squeeze through them. You must move any platforms such as chairs and tables even bins away from garden boundaries and cover any that could be climbed over or through with mesh or screening. Your dog must be supervised in your garden at all times during the settling-in period. You are responsible for the safety of your dog whilst out on walks or essential visits such as the vet. Once you are able to walk your dog, you must, walk them wearing a lead attached to their collar or harness. They MUST also wear a second slip lead for safety so there are two points of attachment at all times. Two leads must be used for the entirety of the fostering period (longer if required). You must be willing to provide the dog with the level of exercise and stimulation that they require everyday. You must commit to completing training with the dog with the help and advice of IDR and professional help if necessary. You must understand that if you do not commit to training the dog and it leads to the development of behavioural issues then you are expected to work through them, NOT return the dog to us. It is your responsibility as the dog’s owner to train them how to behave appropriately. Positive reinforcement training methods must be used. Due to the uncertain and unknown backgrounds of our dogs, we cannot guarantee that they will be suitable to take to the workplace. However, the dog must not be left alone in the home for more than 5 hours or overnight. If you are out for more than 5 hours at a time then you must make other arrangements such as a dog walker or pet sitter. This person must take your dog out for a walk or spend time with the dog in the home to break up their day and ensure they are safe and unharmed in your absence. Popping home in your lunch break will not provide your dog with sufficient exercise. In order to foster-to-adopt a dog, you must be able to pay the adoption fee of £250. This is split into the reservation fee (£50) which is paid before the dog travels and the remaining adoption fee of £200 which is paid after 3-4 weeks of fostering the dog. We are unable to assess the dogs before they travel. We receive limited information from the vet in Romania and do not have any volunteers living there.
