All WPCC staff members, volunteers, and contract employees are expected to respect the school community by dressing appropriately for an early childhood educational environment. Your attire should facilitate participation in learning and the health and safety of students and other staff members. Working with young kids requires frequent movement and can be messy. Please be mindful of ensuring that your attire can meet the minimum requirement listed below when moving about with the children (i.e., bending over, getting up and down from the floor, playing outside, picking a child up, running, etc.) This policy is intended to guide employees and volunteers.
Minimum Requirements:
- Clothing must cover all areas shown in the image below. This includes covering from one armpit across to the other armpit (i.e., be mindful of low cut shirts), down to approximately 3 to 4 inches in length on the upper thighs (i.e., shorts, skirt). Tops must have shoulder straps of at least 1 to 2 inches in width. Rips or tears in clothing should be lower on the thigh than the 3 to 4 inches in length. This coverage includes ensuring that midriffs are not exposed.
- Shoes must be worn at all times and should be safe for the school environment (pajamas, bedroom shoes, or slippers shall not be worn, except for school-approved activities). Sandals are permitted; however, be mindful that you may need to move quickly and that children sometimes accidentally step on toes.
- See-through or mesh garments must not be worn without appropriate coverage underneath that meets the dress code's minimum requirements.
- Clothing should be clean and neat.
- All clothing should fit properly and be appropriate to the job being performed.
- Employees should be mindful of wearing items that may cause injury if pulled or torn from the body, for example, long necklaces, dangling earrings, large hoop earrings, etc. This includes non-jewelry items, such as, but not limited to, non-tear-away lanyards.
