  • SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY & AWARD INFORMATION

    The Greenwood Alphas Foundation will award up to 8 scholarships to area students. To be eligible to receive either of these scholarships, recipients must enroll at one of the following Historically Black Colleges or Universities (HBCUs) during the 2025 - 26 academic year beginning with the Fall 2025 semester:

    Alcorn State University
    Jackson State University
    Mississippi Valley State University
    Rust College
    Tougaloo College
     

          Failure of a selectee to enroll in and attend one of these HBCUs during the Fall 2025 semester (except to fulfill a military obligation) violates the eligibility requirements and voids their selection.   

     

    REQUIREMENTS

          To be considered for the Greenwood Alphas Foundation, Inc. scholarship, applicants must:

    Be a graduating senior of any race, creed, color, ethnicity, genders, national origin, enrolled in good standing at a public high school in Sunflower County, Humphreys County, Carroll County, Holmes County or Leflore County.
    Have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale, which will be verified by the high school counselor.
    Submit a typewritten essay, not to exceed two (2) typed pages, on the topic “How Will My Education or Career Goals Help to Promote Manly Deeds, Scholarship and Love for All Mankind in My Community?”


    Submit a completed application and their typed essay by 3:00 p.m. on April 1, 2025, to their high school counselor. All applications received after this time will not be considered.
     

    SELECTION INFORMATION       

    Academic excellence (GPA, ACT/SAT score and academic honors) will make up one third of the evaluation; community service, leadership, special skills and talents will make up one third of the evaluation; and, the typed essay will make up the final one third of the evaluation.  Scholarship winners will be announced in late May 2024.

     

    AWARD OF SCHOLARSHIPS

    Up to 8 successful applicants will be awarded scholarships upon verification of their enrollment at one of Mississippi’s four-year Historically Black Colleges or Universities (HBCUs) during the Fall semester of 2024. Scholarship award amounts will be as follows:

    One scholarship for - $2,000.00

    Seven scholarships for - $1,000.00 each

     

    Failure of a selectee to enroll in and attend one of Mississippi’s HBCUs during the Fall 2025 semester (except to fulfill a military obligation) violates the eligibility requirements and voids their selection.  

     

    Half of each scholarship will be awarded during the Fall 2025 semester and the remaining half will be awarded during the Spring 2026 Semester upon receipt of enrollment verification from the institution.  

     

    Selectees who enroll and drop out/withdraw from school during the first semester voids their selection and payment of the second half of their scholarship.

     

    Theses scholarships will NOT be awarded during attendance at Summer school sessions.
