JV/VARSITY AUDITION PACKET

 

 

It is an honor for a student to be selected for JV/Varsity Production. They will represent the Covington MS FA Theatre Department, and the number is limited to a company size of no more than 20 students. Talent is not the only consideration when choosing these students. Passing grades and eligibility are of the utmost importance. And as always, a person must be right for the roles available in the chosen play. If selected for Varsity Theatre, the student is expected to participate in UIL One-Act Play competition, the musical, and running crew for the JV show. If selected for JV theatre, the student is expected to participate in the JV Winter show (TBD), and participate in one other show for the school year (musical or running crew for Varsity show) Failure to participate will result in removal from class. Please make sure this packet is completed and submitted at the same time as your audition. Audition submissions are to be submitted via BLEND by no later than March 20th. You must have both your recorded audition and completed packet in order to be considered. Please have a memorized 1-minute monologue prepared. Thank you and good luck!

AGREEMENTS: Please read the agreements below. Both you and your parent MUST sign at the bottom to show that you understand and will follow all agreements. Any questions should be directed to Ms. Vallejo at erica.vallejo@austinisd.org

 

1. I understand that it is absolutely essential that every rehearsal be attended on time and for the complete duration of time. In other words, students may not leave early for any reason unless prior notice has been made on the conflict sheet. It is greatly appreciated if you would avoid asking to leave early unless it is a medical emergency. 

2. I agree that if I should break this rehearsal commitment in any way, my part will absolutely be forfeited. Family trips, company plans made at the last minute will not be excused and consequently the part taken away. Students who miss rehearsal due to a conflict not noted on the conflict sheet will forfeit their part. 

3. I agree that appropriate transportation arrangements home from rehearsal will be made and I will leave rehearsals on time. 

4. Students will attend rehearsals ON TIME prepared with script, pencil, and appropriate clothing.

5. Students will notify Ms. Vallejo or about any absences missed due to an illness or a medical emergency. IT IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE FOR STUDENTS TO RELY ON A FRIEND TO TELL ME ABOUT AN ABSENCE. I must hear from either you or your parent.

6. All cast members who have lines will be off book by required deadline. 

7. All cast members will keep their grades up to satisfactory level. 

8. Play rehearsal is not to be used as a lever for home discipline or convenience. In other words, keeping a student home to baby-sit a younger sibling or as a consequence is not an excusable absence and the student’s part will be forfeited. 

9. Both my parents and I have considered this contract carefully and agree to them. Failure to fulfill this contract will result in my part being forfeited. 

10. I understand this is a YEAR LONG CLASS. I will be unable to drop this class at any point unless I fail to meet the above requirements. A meeting will be held with Ms. V, my parents, myself, and the counselor and all parties are in full agreement before any change can be made. 

You will submit a 1 minute monologue of your choosing.

AUDITION VIDEO REQUIREMENTS

1. Introduce yourself at the beginning of the video.
2. Pick a performance with plenty of room to move.
3. Choose a flattering camera angle that captures your full performance.
4. Make sure your performance is well lit.
5. Submit an audition video with clean takes.
6.  Make sure your video is no longer than 1 minute.
