• Life After Fire Expedition Registration

    2022 Life After Fire Project
  • Please use the form below to indicate your interest in joining us for fieldwork. Trips are 3-day camping expeditions to various sites in East Gippsland to conduct post-fire wildlife monitoring fieldwork. On expeditions, you'll help with a range of wildlife monitoring techniques including the use of motion-sensing cameras, audio recorders (for birds, bats and frogs), scat surveys, and spotlighting surveys.

Exact locations for this trip could change as we are trying to respond to current conservation priorities, and working with community experts & external scientists who require some flexibility. Dates are also subject to change, if weather conditions lead to an unsafe working environment.

Each volunteer (including those who will be sharing a vehicle) will need to fill the below form. Please indicate if you will be travelling together in the comments section.

All NatureWatch events are subject to current VNPA COVID-19 guidelines and are likely to change with the Victorian Government's guidelines.

    • Participants are required to conduct a RAT test prior to attending this trip.
    • Please DO NOT attend this trip if you have any symptoms of Covid-19 including fever, cough and sore throat. Please contact the leader if you are no longer able to make it.
    • Please DO NOT attend this activity if you are a household contact of a positive Covid-19 case. Please contact the leader if you are no longer able to make it.
    • Please bring your own small bottle of hand sanitiser to the trip.

    • VNPA is currently not encouraging or organising carpooling for fieldtrips.

  • There are no costs associated with attending these expeditions. However, all volunteers are self-sufficient regarding vehicles, bush-style camping equipment, food and water. You will be provided with detailled information about the location and the type of activities upon confirmation of your place. Campervans and camping trailers are welcome to be used if they are appropriate for the terrain - some areas require 4WD or high clearance.

  • Use of personal vehicles for VNPA activities: Volunteers are advised that personal vehicles used for VNPA business/activities are not covered under the VNPA Public Liability or any other insurance. Cars must be roadworthy and fit for the task. Volunteers should have, at minimum, Third Party motor vehicle insurance, ideally Comprehensive insurance when undertaking activities with the VNPA.

  • Project Risks:

This event has inherant risks associated with driving and working in burnt forests. We will send out a risk assessment document with your expedition notes, if you've been approved for a trip.

In general, we will be in some areas that are isolated with patchy mobile reception.

Please let us know of any medical conditions you think could be relevant to your time on the event so that we can prepare. This information will remain confidential. We will have general first aid equipment available. If you need personal emergency medication such as ventolin, epi-pen or nitroglycerin spray, please bring these medications with you.

  • Please provide us with a primary emergency contact below.

  • Thank you for registering in this expedition!

We expect interest to be beyond the capacity so you may not be confirmed for this trip. However, we may place you on a waiting list if this occurs.

Confirmation of your place/s will be sent soon, along with additional project information to help you plan your adventure.

We look forward to spending some time with you soon in the amazing East Gippsland forests!

    Cheers,
