Dear Parent,
Olney Town Cricket Club welcomes you. We hope that your child will enjoy being part of the Club and taking part in cricket coaching, training and matches. We also hope that they, and indeed, you, take full advantage of opportunities to participate in the social life the Club offers during the cricketing season.
You will see that each junior member can nominate two social members free of charge for the 2025 cricketing season. We hope you’re able to take up this offer.
The aim of this letter is to provide information that may be helpful to you now that you have a junior member of the Club in your family. Please do ask me – the Club’s Safeguarding Officer – or my deputy, Jo Bull, if you have other questions not answered in this letter.
Olney Town Cricket Club is run entirely by volunteers. We welcome offers of help from all members, and hope that, as you begin to feel part of the Club, you are able to get fully involved. Over the years, many parents have become “junior helpers” and provide invaluable assistance to our coaches during coaching sessions or matches. If this is of interest to you, then please feel free either to approach your age-group coach or the Club’s Junior Team Co-ordinator, Iain Keeping.
Olney Town Cricket Club adheres to England & Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) “Safe Hands” Policy for Safeguarding Children in cricket https://www.ecb.co.uk/about/policies/safeguarding/kit-bag-resources. The Club’s Safeguarding Policy can be found on our website (click here) along with other policies relevant to junior members (such as “Transporting Children”) in accordance with which the Club operates. You will note that, in completing the junior membership form, you are asked to confirm that you are familiar with the Club’s policies and are content with them.
A full list of Olney Town Cricket Club’s officers, committee members, captains, and coaches, with contact details, can be found on our Club’s website. Adults at the Club who work with children, and who meet the necessary criteria set by the ECB, are vetted by the ECB. This includes a DBS and ‘Barred List’ check. This is renewed on a yearly basis.
If you have a question regarding coaching, please approach the relevant age-group coach in the first instance. However, please do not interrupt coaching sessions, especially nets practice, as this may distract the coach when he or she needs to be supervising the children. Our coaches will be happy to speak to you before or after training, or at another convenient time.
If you have questions about kit requirements, training times, pick up arrangements etc please speak to either your age-group coach or the Club’s Junior Team Co-ordinator, Iain Keeping.
Whilst we hope your child will be happy and content at Olney Town Cricket Club, we understand that, sometimes, questions, concerns or difficulties may arise. Please feel able to raise these as soon as possible, so we can rectify things at the earliest opportunity.
If you have any concerns about your child or another child, or about the behaviour of any adult at Olney Town Cricket Club, please speak to me, the Club Safeguarding Officer, or my deputy, Jo Bull. Our details are on the Club’s website at https://olneytown.play-cricket.com and we can be e-mailed directly at OTCCsafeguarding@gmail.com.
If you have wider concerns about the Club’s approach to junior cricket, you may wish to contact the Bucks County Safeguarding Officer and discuss your concerns with them via e-mail at safeguarding@buckscricket.co.uk
Finally, all members, junior and adult, are reminded of Olney Town Cricket Club’s code of conduct for members and guests, which again can be found on our website at https://olneytown.play-cricket.com/docs.
We do hope that you and your child enjoy being a member of Olney Town Cricket Club. If you do have any questions or concerns, do please let me know.
Yours faithfully
James Paynter
OTCC Safeguarding Officer
