The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) is a federal-state partnership, with the mission to "innovate, partner, and invest to build community capacity and strengthen economic growth in Appalachia". The region covers 420 counties across the 13 Appalachian states. ARC’s strategic plan identifies investment goals to advance its mission: create economic opportunity; prepare a ready workforce, with priority given to hiring and retaining workers in recovery; build critical infrastructure; and cultivate leadership and community capacity.
Southern Tier 8 Regional Board is the Local Development District that serves the eight-county region of Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Otsego, Schoharie, Tioga, and Tompkins. We are your local partner in preparing ARC investment requests.
In 2020, our staff assisted 18 nonprofit and public sector organizations in developing applications for the Regional Board's Review Committee, leading to the Regional Board recommending eight projects totalling $956,658 for NYS Department of State's approval and request for ARC's FY2020 Investment.
