    CHS Class of 2021


    The Cheltenham School District Foundation (CSDF) is proud to offer scholarships to help fund your future! 

    Thanks to the generosity of our local businesses, your teachers and community members we can offer a total of $10,500 worth of scholarships this year.

    Students interested in applying for a CSDF Scholarship must meet the following criteria:

    • Be a member of the Class of 2021 from Cheltenham High School, Wyncote, PA.
    • Provide your CHS student ID number.
    • Meet the specific requirements for each scholarship including letters of recommendation.
    • Letters will ask for specifics regarding your attitude, academic ability, college potential, and personal attributes.
    • If the award is a memorial award, student recipients are required to write a 'Thank you note' to the Donor. (Scholarship recipients will receive the name and address with the announced award.)

    Application Instructions

    Please take the time to read through the instructions before applying. INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED–and we don't want that to happen! 

    Application Deadline: Monday, April 26, 2021, at 3:00 p.m.

    One completed online application is all you need to turn in to apply for any of the scholarships for which you are qualified. 

    • Make sure you checkmark all the scholarships for which you wish to apply and complete the associated essay for each (scroll to see multiple essay forms).
    • You need 1 letter of recommendation so ask for it NOW.  
      Teachers and administrators need time to fill out the form, so allow at least two weeks.
    • Pay attention to the criteria for a scholarship and be sure to include all the information needed.
    • Please read the specific requirements for each scholarship and make sure that you have followed the directions and completed the essay . 
    • The Foundation will award scholarships at  via email notification by June 2, 2021.

    • Alumni Scholarship sponsored by CHS Class '67  
    • This $500 scholarship is sponsored by the Cheltenham High School Class of '67 Alumni organization. It is awarded to 2 CHS graduating seniors that best describe via an essay, their experience at CHS. 

      Requirements:

      An essay describing what student's CHS experience meant to them.

    • Innovative Senior Scholarship  
    • $1,000 Scholarship (2 awards given)

      The mission of CSDF is to support innovative programming across the Cheltenham School District.

      This award will be given to two CHS students demonstrating an innovative idea, initiative, or project they completed while at Cheltenham High School.

      Guidelines for the innovative idea, initiative, or project:

      • Can be comprised of any medium(s) of artwork, animation, audio, video, photos, presentation, or creative writing.
      • Completed at any time during your education at CHS.
      • Can be part of a CHS approved class, organization, activity, volunteering, organizing, or production associated with the school.
      • Does not have to be a program funded by CSDF.
      • Scholarship applications will be reviewed holistically, and all uploaded materials will be evaluated equally.
      • Your description should include the assignment or goal of the project, anyone involved, class or organization affiliated, and any other details that make it innovative.

      Requirements:

      • Brief recommendation from a teacher to supports your innovative project.
      • Describe your project in under 500 words. 
      • You have the opportunity to upload TWO multimedia files to demonstrate your completed initiative including photos, music, photos, video to support your innovative idea.

    • Shooting for the Stars…. Scholarship  
    • $500 Scholarship (2 awards given)

      Awarded to two CHS students who have demonstrated resilience and perseverance in overcoming obstacles during their CHS experience. This scholarship can be used for a 2-or 4-year college or a trade school.

      Requirements:

      • Letter of recommendation from a teacher or mentor.
      • Write a maximum of 250-300 words on ‘Overcoming obstacles and developing resiliency.’
        • Please describe the events and strategies that helped you overcome this obstacle and how you will use these experiences moving forward.

    • Making A Difference… Scholarship  
    • $500 Scholarship (2 awards given)

      Awarded to two CHS students who have a passion for improving their community and impacting the lives of others. The focus can be environmental, civic, social, political or otherwise.

       

      Requirements:

      • Letter of recommendation from a teacher or mentor.
      • ESSAY: Write a maximum of 250-300 word describing 'How I want to make a difference in the world and why this is important to me...’

    • Joe Kircher Scholarship  
    • 1 x $500 scholarship

       

      Joseph C. Kircher is a highly respected school district employee who made a difference as a beloved teacher, administrator, colleague and friend to many in Cheltenham School District for 36 years. Mr. Kircher possesses the unique quality of successfully leading by example which he incorporated into his leadership role for 17 years as an outstanding principal of Elkins Park School for whom the auditorium was named Kircher Hall to honor him. Mr. Kircher retired from Cheltenham School District in 2003 and is currently the Regional Program Leader for the Pennsylvania Department of Education's Inspired Leadership Program.

      This scholarship will be awarded to one CHS graduate who valued their experience at Elkins Park School and demonstrated leadership, service, strong character, or a commitment to helping others while there.

      Requirements:

      • Letter of recommendation from an EP teacher.
      • ESSAY: "What I loved about Elkins Park School..."
        250-300 words max.

    • David Katz Memorial Scholarship in STEM  
    • 1 x $500 scholarship

      The David Katz Memorial Scholarship in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)

      David Katz was a dedicated mathematics teacher in the Cheltenham School District for 34 years before retiring in 2006. Dave celebrated his students' accomplishments and believed that his students would find success if they chose to pursue those interests that brought them the greatest joy.

      To celebrate Dave’s lifelong interest in STEM-related topics, CSDF offers this annual scholarship in his memory for students who are pursuing a degree in a science, technology, engineering, or math-related field (including STEM education).

      Requirements:

      • Letter of recommendation from a STEM teacher
      • 2.5-grade point average
      • Demonstrate your interest or commitment to Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) in a 400 word essay.

    • Barry Brucker Memorial Scholarship  
    • 1 x $500 scholarship

      Barry Brucker was a beloved teacher at Glenside Elementary School and as well as vice principal at Elkins Park School. He was a kind and caring person, committed to making each student and teacher the best person they could be. 

      He made a lasting impression on his students and staff as an educator and mentor. He believed every student has great potential, and he was committed to making Cheltenham Township School District a place of inclusion for everyone. He retired in 2005 after 35 years in Cheltenham School District.

      This scholarship is for students who demonstrate perseverance and a commitment to helping others.

      Requirements:

      • Letter of recommendation.
      • ESSAY: "I have demonstrated perseverance and a commitment to help others by...' 250-300 words max.

    • Cheltenham Jazz Band Scholarships  
    • $500 scholarship (2 awards given)

      In memory of Mr. Michael Brecker, these scholarships (sponsored by the CHS Alumni Class of '67), are for two students that have been and are a part of the CHS Jazz Band.

      Requirements:
      A short essay describing what the CHS Jazz Band has meant to the student.

      The teacher leader for the CHS Jazz Band will confirm the final awards.

    • $500 scholarship (2 awards given)

      These scholarships will be awarded to two students who can demonstrate how they dealt with a learning challenge or difficulty and worked to improve their academic paths at CHS.

      Requirements:

      An essay explaining how the student was able to triumph in spite of their supported learning challenge.

    • G.R.I.T Scholarship  
    • 1 x $500 scholarship

      This is a scholarship for a student who demonstrates Growth, Resiliency, Independence, and Tenacity (G.R.I.T) in what they have accomplished as a student at CHS, as a graduate of the Skills for Life Program, and in planning for what they want to do next year.

      Requirements:

      An essay explaining how the student has demonstrated G.R.I.T. as a CHS student.

    • Scholarship for Student Activism  
    • 1 x $500 scholarship

      This scholarship will be awarded to a CHS student that has participated in social activism within their commuity. The student should share how they have worked to cause political, environmental, economic or social change.

      Requirements:

      An essay detailing their student activism during their time at CHS.

    • Barbara Miller Memorial Scholarship in Education  
    • 1 x $1000 scholarship

      Barbara Miller was an Elkins Park resident who worked in the research and development department of GlaxoSmithKline for over 35 years. She strongly believed that at the core of intergenerational success was a solid education and that teachers who reflected their student body in values and experience were key to this.

      To celebrate her life, CSDF offers this annual scholarship in her memory for students of color who are pursuing a degree in education. 

      Requirements:

      • Student belongs to a historically underrepresented population/group such as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color)
      • Must be planning to pursue a degree in education at a college/university
      • An essay detailing why you are committed to becoming an educator.
