  • This application is for returning HBCU college students who have a minimum of two years on HBCU danceline or dance team.  To qualify for this award, the HBCU that you attend must: 

    * be an accredited four year college or university. 

    * not offer an undergraduate dance minor or major. 

    If you are attending a four year accredited college or university and are majoring or minoring in dance, please consider applying for the Traci Greene Collegiate Dance Scholarship Application.  

     

    Application Opens: September 1, 2021

    Scholarship Award Announcement: December 18, 2021

    ·         1-Dance line Coach or Director or Band Director

    ·         1-Community Service Professional whom you’ve volunteered for. 

     

    Please be sure that whomever writes the recommendation addresses the following points:

    o   Name, Title/Occupation,  E-Mail Address.

    o   Why they support your receipt of the talent based scholarship.

    o   Opinion of your talent, potential, and dedication.

    o   Their thoughts on your Scholastic or Artistic prowess (if applicable).

    o   Their thoughts on the benefits of your continued education.

    o   Any other pertinent information about you.

    Please submit THREE video submissions. If you are EXPERIENCING TROUBLE UPLOADING YOUR VIDEOS, PLEASE SEND VIDEO SUBMISSIONS TO Afi Frank, Director of Programming at programsdirector@culturearts.org.
  • Video Submission Requirements: 

     

    Video One- 2 min Jazz/Drill Style 

    Applicant must submit a 2 min video performing an uptempo jazz/drill routine. Applicants can perform to recorded music or band orchestrated music. The choreography does not have to be choreographed by the applicant and must demonstrate any combination of the following skills: 

    - Turn Sequence

    - Two Leaps 

    - Flexibility and Strength

    - Personal Style and Showmanship

     

    Video Two- Skills 

    Applicant must submit a video demonstrating the following skills: 

    -Double pirouettes or more (right/left) 

    - A la Seconde Turn Sequence (Turns in Second) 

    -Grand Jete or Saut de Chat (Right/Left) 

    - Straddle Leap or Leap in Second

    -Right, Left, and Straddle Split 

    -Chaine Turn Combination with Pique Turns

     

    Video Three- Alternative Original Work

    Applicant must perform a1.5 min-2 min creative work that demonstrates a different style of dance other than jazz, i.e., ballet, lyrical, hip hop, jazz, contemporary, street jazz.  Routine should exhibit dancers strengths and artistry.  Entry must be choregraphed by the applicant.
