At Sixteen Hands Horse Sanctuary, we believe that every horse deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, whether they are in need of care or at the end of their journey.
Hay is for Horses Feed Assistance Program
The "Hay is for Horses" initiative by Sixteen Hands Horse Sanctuary aims to provide essential support to committed horse owners who are temporarily struggling financially due to circumstances like job loss, natural disasters, or recent health problems occurring within the last six months.
The program is designed to help owners keep up to two horses fed for 30 days, with a designated budget of $200.
This assistance allows owners to focus on recovering their financial footing. Should the need persist, owners can apply for an extension of another 30 days.
It is important to note that each owner may benefit from this program up to two times per year.
Gentle Journey Equine Farewell Program
The Sixteen Hands Horse Sanctuary's Gentle Journey Equine Farewell Program offers humane euthanasia services for elderly, injured, or unadoptable equines, performed by a licensed veterinarian when owners are financially unable to arrange this themselves.
This program is designed to support horse owners facing temporary financial difficulties, such as job loss, disasters, or medical issues.
Eligibility for this program is limited to residents of Hardee, Manatee, Sarasota, and Desoto Counties in Florida.
The program is designed to assist private horse owners only; applications from commercial or professional operations will not be considered.
Applicants must demonstrate a financial hardship that has occurred within the last six months, and will be required to provide proof of this situation.
This program ensures that the equines can be treated with dignity and compassion during their final moments.
