Steve Barkley has worked in developing and coaching teacher growth for three decades and is currently supporting MAIS Member Schools with personalized training.
Empowering Educators for Continuous Growth That Generates Increased Student Success
Team leaders, Heads of Departments, and Instructional Leaders across the school play key roles in generating ongoing teacher development and success by supporting individual colleagues and guiding collegial practices. This program is designed to support these key staff members.
How important is advancing educators’ skills and knowledge to the achievement of your school goals? In this two-minute video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqRcpA5rYTE Dylan William suggests that every educator needs to get better. If that is a key to your leadership focus, the MAIS/Steve Barkley partnership might have the personalized resources to support your plan.
Part 1 - Teacher Leadership Professional Development
Examines the role of backwards planning in identifying the roles of teacher and administrator leaders in supporting teacher growth for increased student success.
Part 2 - Peer Coaching to Extend Teacher Learning
This session examines the “why and how” of peer coaching. Participants observe a model conference and experience some simple structures they can use to initiate peer coaching or to extend teachers coaching teachers to the next level of impact.
Part 3 - Professional Growth Plans That Maximize Teacher Growth for Student Growth
Professional Growth Plans (PGPs) should focus on maximizing the payoff in student success, growth, or achievement from educator’s learning. How can school administrators, instructional coaches, and teacher leaders initiate and support moving from “check the box” plans to PGPs that capture real teacher investment and learning for them and their students? Asking “What is my (our) hypothesis?” may generate more individual and organizational learning than asking “What is my (our) my goal? Experiences assisting schools in redesigning their PGP approach will be shared. Participants can begin designing their own PGP to share as a possible example with colleagues.
Part 4 - Virtual follow up sessions for all participating schools
Other MAIS schools taking part in the first day session could schedule a 60-90 minute virtual session with Steve back at their schools to extend the areas of interest that they found at the workshop with a larger number of leaders at their school.
