Description of non-professional sporting event*
“Nonprofessional” means an activity typically engaged in by amateurs and primarily for pleasure rather than for pecuniary benefit or other reasons indicating a professional interest in the activity. “Sporting event” means an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess, usually competitive in nature and governed by a set of rules provided by a nationally recognized sanctioning body or by a local organization engaged in the development and active promotion of the athletic activity. A sporting event typically includes the placing of competitors into a fixed order of finish, depending upon their respective athletic performance within the rules provided for that activity. Per RSAD Admin Rules,“sporting event” includes but is not limited to youth sports, high school athletic activities, the Special Olympics, and other nonprofessional athletic activities.

Eligible Expenses

Per program rules, all expenses must be paid between July 1, 2021 and June 30, 2022. Proof of payment and payment date will be required with evaluation paperwork.

ELIGIBLE EXPENSES: Only expenditures directly related to the active promotion of the nonprofessional sporting event are eligible for funding from this sports grant program. Items that are considered eligible expenses include but are not limited to:

Advertising / Promotional materials for marketing purposes outside a 90-mile radius of Cerro Gordo County, IA

Equipment Rental
Production Costs
Fees & Costs for Officiants

INELIGIBLE EXPENSES: Expenses that are not directly related to the active promotion of a nonprofessional sporting event are not eligible for funding from the sports grant program. Ineligible expenses include but are not limited to:

Travel costs for applicant staff or volunteers
Solicitation Efforts
Lobbying Fees
Meals or Lodging Expenses
Alcoholic Beverages
Items purchased for resale
Prizes given to participants (this includes prize money)
Advertising / Promotional materials targeting North Iowa residents / marketing within a 90-mile radius of Cerro Gordo County, IA
