• Girls in the Wilderness & Boots to Roots Youth Backpacking Trips

    Our backpacking trips focus on building confidence, gaining wilderness skills, and increasing self-reliance for middle school youth. This summer, we are offering 4 weeks of exciting outdoor adventures for girls and boys. We have chosen to keep the groups separate so we can really focus on team building and self-esteem. Please sign up for the trip that fits the way your child identifies.

  • Trip Descriptions

    Each backpacking camp runs Mon.-Thurs. and departs from our TNC headquarters in Hotchkiss. Registration fee of $350 includes all staff costs, food, transportation and ALL backpacking equipment (tents, sleeping bags, pads, stoves, etc.) Participants are only asked to provide their own outdoor clothing, footwear and personal items.

  • Girls In The Wilderness - Gunnison National Forest
    Have you ever slept under a blanket of stars and hiked through endless groves of aspen? If you’re looking for an epic adventure in nature this summer, join us for four days of backpacking in the beautiful Gunnison National Forest! This one’s for the girls. 

    Registration Deadline: June 21
    July 12th – 15th | Ages: 11-15 | Cost: $350 | Enrollment: Limited to 11 girls each trip

    Boots to Roots - Gunnison National Forest
    Have you ever slept under a blanket of stars and hiked through endless groves of aspen? If you’re looking for an epic adventure in nature this summer, join us for four days of backpacking in the beautiful Gunnison National Forest! This one’s for the boys.

    July 19th – 22nd | Ages: 11-15 | Cost: $350 |  Enrollment: limited to 11 boys each trip
     


    Girls In The Wilderness - Uncompahgre Wilderness
    There is nothing like a sunset in the Uncompahgres. Come hike and camp with other girls for four days above 10,000 feet against the majestic silhouette of prehistoric volcanoes and taste the crisp waters of high alpine lakes. Adventure awaits!

    Boots to Roots - Uncompahgre Wilderness
    Go not West, but South, young man. There lies the Cimarron range, a ridge jagged as a sawtooth blade. On this four day wilderness expedition you will travel through oceans of fir and the ghosts of ancient volcanoes. What are you waiting for?

    Aug 2nd – 5th | Ages: 11-15 | Cost: $350 | Enrollment: limited to 11 boys each trip

  • Thanks to the Generation Wild Grant, we are able to offer backpacking trip rates of $350 this year, instead of a standard $500 per trip!
