The purpose of the functional behaviour assessment is to understand why the behaviours of concern are occurring, with the knowledge that all human behaviour serves a need for the person. Consent is sought from relevant decision-makers before the assessment begins, as required by relevant state laws and policies. When the presenting behaviours are complex, interdisciplinary consultation is obtained to allow for an integrated formulation of the person, who remains at the centre of the assessment.
The observed information you provide will assist Behaviour Support Practitioners in reviewing data and formulating a revised plan for the participant if required.
