Thank you for your interest in getting a compost bin through Leon County's Office of Sustainability! In March 2021, Leon County launched a pilot program to offer a compost bin giveaway and sale for interested residents, businesses, and organizations. Interest was so high that the initial batch of bins sold out in an hour!
With the success of this program and the positive feedback from the community, Leon County is making this a permanent program to offer Earth Machine backyard compost bins and Utopia kitchen counter-top compost bins for a wholesale price of $50 and $20, respectively.
If cost is a barrier, send an email to GivenL@LeonCountyFL.gov to discuss options.
When can I expect to receive my compost bin?
We expect the next round of compost bins to be available for purchase in spring of 2025. By completing this form, you are signing up to receive notice of when the next sale launches. We plan to host the sale at least twice a year.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Leah Given at GivenL@LeonCountyFL.gov

What will I be able to get?
Earth Machine backyard compost bins and counter-top kitchen compost collection bins will be available. All residents, nonprofits, organizations, and businesses in Leon County and surrounding counties are able to purchase the Earth Machine backyard compost bins for a wholesale price of $50 (a $60 savings from retail), and the counter-top collection bins for a wholesale price of $20.
The bins were offered for free before - why the change?
In March 2021, Leon County launched the pilot program to offer 100 compost bins for giveaway and sale - and in just over an hour, all 100 compost bins were claimed. Soon after, more than 500 people joined the waitlist to get a bin. In the pilot, the giveaway was offered for free to unincorporated citizens, and for sale at a wholesale price for others. Due to the incredible volume of interest and people on the waitlist, we are unable to offer the bins for free for unincorporated citizens and will make the bins available for sale for all residents, organizations, and businesses for the wholesale price of $50 for the Earth Machine bin and $20 for the counter-top collection bin. However, we have made a commitment to provide bins for reduced cost or for free to any citizen for whom cost is a barrier. If you're interested in getting either of the bins but cost is a barrier, email GivenL@LeonCountyFL.gov to discuss options.
