I will provide adequate food, water, shelter, space, exercise, personal attention, play time, love, and veterinary care for the adoptive animal(s) in accordance with Section 3.1-796:68 of the code of Virginia.

 I will comply with all Virginia and local animal license and rabies requirements and I will maintain the animal(s) in a healthy manner to include having follow up vaccines and/or boosters administered in a timely manner as needed.

 I will keep the kitten(s)/cat(s) as a strictly indoor pet and not allow him/her outside unless enclosed or leashed (with proper training), and I will provide flea protection for the animal(s). INDOOR cats can and will get fleas from their humans coming in from outside or sitting in open windows.

 I will take my new cat/kitten to the vet for a wellness exam within 14 days of adoption. *If I do not then I understand that I am responsible for any and all medical expenses regarding my adoptee.* I will provide documentation via email or paper records to BTKR proving compliance.

I will not feed meow mix or any food containing coloring additives or titanium dioxide.

I will not use essential oils or diffusers because they are toxic to cats.

I will remove any and all poisonous plants from my home.

I will NOT have the animal(s) declawed.

I agree that the adopted animal(s) will NEVER; be used in any form of medical research or experiment, or any form of cultural or social ritual or practice in which he/she is in any way harmed or threatened with harm; to train dogs or other animals, as bait for trapping/hunting/tracking, or as food for any animal, attempt to train the adoptive animal(s) to perform any tricks/behaviors, which it does not naturally enjoy for any purpose.

 I will never use corporal punishment, caging, crating, yelling, or denial of food/water as a method of training or punishment for the adopted animal(s). If the animal(s) exhibits undesired behaviors that I cannot curb, I will seek guidance from BTKR, a vet, or other cat experts for suggestions on how to alter the behaviors.

I agree that I will not introduce any new person or animal into my home who intends to harm the adopted animal(s). If such behaviors are discovered, I will either remove the newly introduced individual or animal, or contact Billy The Kidden Rescue immediately to return the adopted animal(s).

 If the above named animal(s) becomes sick, disappears, or dies within the first year after adoption, I agree to notify BTKR immediately.

I understand that the animal(s) I am adopting may have been rescued from a feral colony and that their behavioral and medical histories are not fully known. I accept that building trust with these animals is a significant part of the adoption process and may take weeks or months. I am committed to fostering this bond at the animal's pace.

While I understand that every reasonable effort has been made to ensure the animal's health and temperament, I recognize that not all conditions can be identified during their time in BtKR's care. I agree to adopt the animal(s) in their current state and assume full responsibility for all medical care and treatment for any symptoms, illnesses, or injuries that may occur while they are in my custody.

 I agree that BTKR has the right, at their discretion, to reclaim the animal(s) if there is reason to believe the home is not fit or if this adoption contract has been breached. Furthermore, I give permission for a representative of BTKR to access my premises for the purposes of retrieving him/her under these conditions.

In the event that I am unable to keep the adoptive animal(s) for any reason, I agree to return them to Billy The Kidden Rescue. I understand that I will forfeit my adoption donation and will contact the rescue immediately to arrange the return of the cat(s).

I agree that this is a legal and binding contract, and by accepting this agreement, I hereby release Billy the Kidden Rescue or its’ representatives, volunteers, or successors from any responsibility for any and all injuries and damages as a result of the adoption of the above described animal(s).

In the event that this contract requires referral to an attorney for enforcement, I agree to be responsible for the payment of reasonable attorney’s fees and court costs incurred by BTKR or its representatives.
