This form is to register your swimmer(s) to be "waitlisted" for a swim evaluation. Should spots open up in the pre-season program or the Orcas you will be notified of opportunity to be evaluated.
Wild Orca Eligibility Criteria:
Children & grandchildren of members, or staff, of the Westover Club who are at least 51/2 yrs old and younger than 19 (age as of May 1) are eligible to become members of the Westover Orca swim team. Any exceptions will be at the coach's discretion. When team size permits, non-members from the surrounding neighborhood will be considered. Priority will always be given to Westover members. At the coach's discretion, swimmers are passed onto the team if they meet the following skills:
- swim 25 yd freestyle, exhibiting consistent proficient side-breathing patterns
- swim 25 yd backstroke exhibiting proficient kick & stable horizontal body position
- show ability to focus on instruction, in group, for 30-45 min session
Mini-Team Lessons @ WO
If your swimmer is not yet ready for the summer team, he may be ready for "Mini-Team" Swim lessons @ WO beginning 4/19/21 if he/she:
- is 5 1/2 yrs old (or older) as of 1-1-2021. DOB = June 2015 or earlier
- demonstrates water safe, floating and bubble-blowing skills
- is "happy" in the water / displays confidence (no hesitation or fear)
- has no separation issues (parents will not be allowed on deck)
- can hold focus in 25-30 min class period
Mini-Team lesson UPDATE — Registration for Mini-team swim lessons is temporarily closed. Numbers will be assessed and registration open as appropriate. Thanks for your patience.
Skill expectations for 2nd and 3rd Mini-Team classes are:
- ability to push off the wall unassisted, blowing bubbles face-in, in a streamline float (with & without kicking)
- back float without assistance for 10-15 seconds
- kick (arms extended on kick board) in horizontal body position for 1/2 pool
Due to Covid we are more limited this year in our teaching capabilities. If your swimmer is not ready for "Mini-team" lessons please attend the 4/3 evaluation or contact Coach Sandy for referrals to lessons that could help your swimmer jump into "Mini-Team" lessons.
