• Try Scouts: Join 1st Vermont Scout Group

Prospective Member Enquiry & Information Kit
  • Thanks for your interest in your child(ren) joining 1st Vermont Scout Group

In completing this form we'll send you an information kit that covers common questions about joining Scouts before you join. Sometimes with gmail, hotmail and other email services, the information kit goes to spam.

Once you've had a chance to read through the information (and are still keen to come try out Scouts) there's a second form to complete that gets a little more detail so we can start a 3 week membership trial.

    Age Groups & Meeting Times

The Scout Program guidelines changed with the new program introduced in 2019. The ages below are the encouraged guideline as to which section suits what age. They take into account the child’s development and maturity, and provide age-appropriate activities along the way.

Joey Scouts - Wed 6:00pm - 7:00pm - 5 years (it's recommended they've started primary school or are 'school ready' if joinging in Term 4), moving up to Cubs between turning 8 and before they turn 9.

Cub Scouts - Tue 6:30pm - 8:00pm - from 8 years, moving up to Scouts from 11 and before turning 12.

    Scouts - Thu 7:00pm - 9:00pm - from 11 years, moving up to Venturers between 14 and 15.

Venturers - Starting again at 1st Vermont soon - from 14 years, moving up to Rovers at 18.

    Parent Involvment

Like all volunteer groups, adult support keeps the group running. There's a number of ways for adults to get involved in the Scout Group.

We're always in need of new leaders and helpers to help deliver the youth program. The program is 'youth led, adult supported' and you don't need to have any prior Scouting experience to make a great leader.

The more leaders we have at any time, the more the load is able to be shared. We're close to reaching our current maximum capacity of youth members at the moment. Each extra new leader or adult helper in a Unit lets us potentially allow 4-6 more youth members to join.

We encourage at least one parent per family to sign up initially as a Group Rostered Parent so you can come and help out occasionally. Other options include becoming an Adult Helper (allows helping weekly), Group Committee member (managing group admin, finances, fundraising etc), or look at becoming a Leader.

More information on that is in the information kit or feel free to give me a call to discuss further if you're interested in finding out more.

    Next Steps

Once you've completed the second form to start a trial, I'll be in touch further to arrange when to start your trial based on what's on in coming weeks.

If you do have any further questions, please contact me or talk with the leaders when you start your trial.

Add my number to your phone too! Saves screening a call from a number you don't know when I call to follow up.
