  • This is the online application for the SBCC Study Abroad Programs. Please be sure you select the program you are applying for. You will not pay your application fee until you have officially been accepted into the program. Once you have been officially accepted, your spot will not be held until we have received your application fee payment. Instructions on how to pay will be provided in the acceptance notification.

     

    What you will need to complete this application:

     

    1. A current photo (a close-up photo similar to a passport or driver's license photo that clearly identifies your face.) DO NOT SUBMIT A COPY OF YOUR PASSPORT

    2. The Student Conduct Release form completed by the official responsible for student conduct at the school you most recently completed a semester. You can download the form on our website or HERE.

    3. Two recommendation forms. At least one must be completed by a recent professor. The form can be downloaded on our website or HERE. 

     4. Your unofficial transcript. 

    If you do not have the above materials, please close this window and collect the materials first. Once you have everything, come back to this form and upload all required materials with this online application.

    Partial applications can not be accepted. All required materials must be submitted with this form and all required signatures must be obtained before submission. 

    We strongly recommend that you review the specific program details of the program you are applying for before submitting the application. You can find the program details by visiting our general program page, then scrolling down and clicking on the specific program of choice.

     

    REQUIREMENTS FOR OUR PROGRAMS:

     

    1.  Must be 18 years or older on the program departure date

    2. Must have successfully completed 12 college-level units prior to the term of the program

    3. Minimum 2.5 GPA for semester programs

    4. Minimum 2.0 GPA for short programs

    5. Some programs require successful completion of ENG 110 (College Reading and Writing). Please check the specific program page and review the "Courses and Credits" section to check if you have a course requirement. 

    6. Complete and submit the application successfully, including all required documents, and complete the interview with the program director

     

    To be able to accept you into the program, we will need all the required documents and you must complete the interview with the program director. You are not officially accepted into the program until you receive the acceptance notification from the Study Abroad office (not the program director.)

    Apply early as the number of spaces in the programs is limited and the programs may fill before the deadline. Please check the deadline for the program you are applying for on our website as they are different for each program. Once the program reaches its maximum number, applicants will be placed on a waiting list. Applications may be accepted after the deadline if space is available.

    History, Art History and Italian Language in Florence, ItalyImmerse yourself in experiential learning and spend the spring semester 2024 in Florence, Italy with Santa Barbara City College! Florence is the capital of the Italian region of Tuscany and is the birthplace of the Renaissance. Known for its art, architecture and history, Florence is considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world. While in this unique environment you will experience Italian culture through study, instruction and immersion in daily Italian life. Field trips and excursions are planned to other cities and regions in Italy as well. The SBCC Semester Abroad in Florence includes courses in European history, art history and the Italian language. The program is academic in nature, but it also provides you with the opportunity to make new friends, become acquainted with Italy's living history and learn through direct experience with the Italian language, customs and cuisine. Application Deadline October 22, 2023. The application fee is due upon official acceptance to the program.

  • WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

    Once the study abroad office staff has received and reviewed your completed application with required documents, the program director of the program you applied for will reach out to you to set up an interview. The interview can be held via Zoom if you are located outside of the Santa Barbara area and as long as SBCC offers remote services.

    Once you successfully completed the application process, you will receive an email notification of the acceptance decision with further information and instructions.

    When the program has met its 20 student minimum, you will be notified that the program will move forward and receive the legal documents, which you are required to complete and return to the Study Abroad office by the provided deadline. At that time you can also purchase your flight ticket, enroll for the semester, and/or register for courses.

    A pre-departure meeting will be held, usually at the end of the semester leading up to the start of the program. Attendance is mandatory for participants. Parents of participants are invited to join the meeting.

    The SBCC Study Abroad Office will communicate with you primarily by e-mail. If you change any of your contact information after submitting your application, it is your responsibility to update the information with the Study Abroad Office immediately by sending your new information to nwalther@pipeline.sbcc.edu
