     The Makers and Traders of Newcastle is an Association for independently owned and operated businesses in the Newcastle city area that bring creative, social, cultural and economic value to our City.

     

    WHAT IS OUR PURPOSE?

    This Association aims to bring together the makers and traders across the City, with the intent of increasing visitation, developing activations and growing awareness of the experiences that make this City a significant cultural destination.

    WHY BE A MEMBER?

    • Because it identifies you as belonging to a powerful, independent business collective.
    • Because your Membership counts politically and culturally, with the influence to affect and inspire your local community.
    • Because it provides you with visibility, tools and assets for your business, as well as connection to your community of like-minded independent businesses.

  • A NOTE ON Membership Eligibility - currently, Membership is limited to businesses operating within / bordering the SBR (Special Business Rate) precinct due to projects being funded by the City of Newcastle SBR grants. *Please bear with us while we develop a way to accept Members outside the SBR precinct.

    We curate themed walking trails across Newcastle to feature on the City of Newcastle App to promote Members to visitors.
  • FINAL STEP - Your ATDW profile

    It is a requirement of your Membership that your business has an Australian Tourism Data Warehouse (ATDW) profile.
  • WHAT IS ATDW?

    • ATDW is Australia’s National Tourism Database of 40,000+ listings, divided into 11 categories. It is State Government owned and funded.
    • ATDW collect, quality-assure, store and distribute Australia’s digital travel information to over 250+ distributors to use on their consumer websites and apps.

    WHY SIGN UP?

    • City of Newcastle uses the ATDW to populate their tourism information App.
    • Listing your business on the ATDW enables us to include and promote your business through our partnership with City of Newcastle.
    • It also makes your business visible to the tourism trade across Australia.

    • It's FREE to set up, takes about 15mins and your answers in this form will help you with some of the questions.

  • Membership Fees and Eligibility

    Membership Fee is annual and goes to the running costs of the Association including administration, bookeeping, marketing and distribution of resources.
  • MEMBERSHIP FEES for 2023

    • $50  for businesses located WITHIN the Special Business Rate Levy Precinct
    • $100  for businesses BORDERING THE NEWCASTLE CITY ZONE of the Special Business Rate Levy Precinct

    A note on Special Business Rates (SBR) - this rate is collected from businesses in Newcastle City Centre, Darby Street, Hamilton, Mayfield, New Lambton and Wallsend, and are reserved exclusively for the promotion, beautification and development of these business precincts. Annual funding for the most creative and innovative project proposals is distributed through a competitive application process.

    The MxT Executive Committee, that are made up of MxT Members, processes all applications with care. You will be notified via email for Membership eligibility.
  • Membership NOW OPEN for 2023 - submissions close 21 August, 2022. Please submit your application and we will be in touch with more information as soon as we can.

    The next edition of Makers x Traders of Newcastle Treasure Map aims to be released January 2023.
