• 2022 Student Government Association - Call for Campaigns

  • Do you have great ideas on how to improve campus life, university processes, or know of causes that need to be advocated for? if so, Student Government may be a great fit for you. Elections happen in April, and we are now accepting campaign applications.

    Timeline:

    • April 1 - 15 - Campaigns applications are being accepted
    • April 18 - 26 - Student body will vote on incoming officers
    • April 28 - New officers are sworn in at the Saints in Leadership Banquet

    The below positions are available. If you want to know the qualifications and/or role responsibilities of each respective position, please visit the Student Government website.

  • Position Descriptions

    • President: To be responsible for the administration of SGA; To preside over and call all special SGA meetings, as well as Executive Board meetings, unless he/she is absent; To facilitate and preside over monthly club meetings; To act as the official representative of SGA; To appoint student representatives to serve on University Committees in his/her place; To serve on the Board of Trustees, and serve on Board of Trustee level Committees; To call and preside over Open Forums for the entire Student Body when deemed necessary; To help give direction and lead by example; To establish and dissolve abhor committees and appoint members to standing committees; To appoint other staff as needed; To establish guidelines for support staff with approval of the Executive Board; and To have the right to unilaterally call for a constitutional review.

    *Must be junior/senior and served one full year on Executive Board

    • Executive Vice-President: To execute presidential responsibilities in the event of the President’s absence; To preside over regularly scheduled meetings and set agendas; To assist the President in the administration of the SGA; To provide immediate interpretation of this constitution when necessary; To oversee and coordinate the elections of all SGA positions; To oversee the mandated club service; To conduct all impeachment proceedings unless accused, then the President will conduct; To chair the committee which conducts any constitutional review; To ensure that all members of SGA are participating in committee meetings; and To provide agendas for General Assembly meetings.

    *Must have served one full year on SGA

    • Vice-President of Programming: To work toward the development of new programming ideas for the Thomas More University community; To provide quality programming for the students of Thomas More University; To plan Student Government's main service event - Winter Wonderland; To plan STAR Banquet; and To aid as a representative for service events requesting SGA assistance, if another Executive Board member does not already fulfill this duty.

    • Vice-President of Finance: To be responsible for the accounting of all monies, funds, assets, etc. of SGA; To present an accurate report of all finances when deemed necessary at SGA meetings; To serve as the Chairperson to the Finance Committee; To maintain the files and record keeping of all monthly budget reports of the SGA general account as presented by the Business Office; To maintain accurate records of all active clubs and organizations, as well as constitutions of said club/organization; and To meet with all clubs and advisors at least once a semester to update policies, field questions, etc.

    • Vice-President of Records & Public Relations: To be responsible for the taking, publishing, and record keeping of all minutes of all SGA meetings and to present a copy of such minutes to all members of SGA and all other appropriate university personnel; To keep accurate records of attendance, roll call, and all business at each meeting of SGA; To publicize meeting dates and locations to the Student Body; To aid in official outgoing SGA correspondence; To oversee the files and all other important record keeping of SGA in an efficient manner; To assist the President in organizing and publicizing all Open Forums and publicize all information concerning the forums; To coordinate with the publicists on all SGA organized events; and To ensure that quality correspondence is provided in a timely and artistic fashion.

    • Vice-President of Diversity and Inclusion: To act as a voice for students of diversified backgrounds; To help program for minority student populations; and To serve as the Chairperson of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
