We are excited to offer a variety of workshops this summer when we could all use some in person connection and time spent getting in touch with beauty, our inner calm, and our creative side. Our hope is to help you slow down and relax while you enjoy the farm atmosphere and paint, do yoga, learn floral design, dye with plants, commune with flowers, make a bouquet or bring your little one(s).
Since workshops are all held outdoors, we will easily be able to practice social distancing, and will be following Covid safety guidelines. We will reschedule and/or offer a refund if gathering restrictions affect our ability to host a workshop.
Workshops are held at Twig & Brindille Flower Farm, located in West Grey, Grey County, between Durham and Markdale, Ontario, N0C 1H0, at 423475 Concession 6. For best results use these GPS coordiantes: 44.238525223381586, -80.78135537301176
Painting in the garden with Christine Barrie, Back in 2023
In this workshop which is suitable for beginner painters, we’ll start with basic colour theory, colour mixing, and creating darks and lights using acrylic paints and a variety of brush sizes on canvas. The rest of the session will be focused on painting a still life set up in the garden. Participants will be encouraged to “see” areas of colour, lights and darks as shapes to be composed on the canvas. Exploration of colour use and paint application will be encouraged as we create a personal expression of what we envision. Emphasis will be on expressing colour and light as inspired by the Impressionist painters. Participants will have a chance to step away from their work to tour the flower farm, enjoy refreshments and assemble a flower bouquet to bring home, before returning to their painting with new eyes. Over lunch (participants bring their own), we’ll share and discuss our work with instructor feed-back.
Christine Barrie graduated from the Ontario College of Art’s Fine Arts program, University of Waterloo’s Fine Arts program, and University of Western Ontario’s Bachelor of Education program. She now resides in Grey County after retiring from teaching arts in elementary schools. She works mainly in acrylic and mixed media and enjoys using her natural surroundings as subject matter. Recently she found her flower gardens a great source of inspiration, as well as a friend’s barnyard. She is represented by www.jestarts.ca and can be reached at email@example.com
