All music majors (minors optional) are required to perform the recital(s) required for the completion of their degree program. No substitutions (forums/juries etc) are acceptable for the fulfilment of this requirement.
A Junior recital constitutes a minimum of 25 minutes of music and a Senior Recital consists of minimum 40 minutes of music as approved by the student’s performance studies instructor.
Every music major or minor planning to perform a degree recital is required to pass a recital hearing in which the student must be prepared to perform the complete recital programme. The hearing must take place a minimum of a month prior to the scheduled recital date. If a student fails the hearing and it cannot be made up prior to three weeks before the recital date, the student must request a new recital date.
The recital hearing committee shall consist of the student’s performance studies instructor and two other music faculty members (preferably faculty from the student’s area of concentration, i.e. piano, voice, woodwind etc. The two music faculty members should be selected with the approval of the performance studies instructor. Additional members of the panel may be required or requested if necessary. The panel shall grade the recital hearing pass/fail by simple majority vote.
A copy of the proposed recital repertoire should be provided for each member of the hearing committee (3 copies). This should be submitted to the music department office no later than a month prior to the approved hearing date.
The responsibility for the planning and scheduling of the hearing and coordinating the selection of the appropriate committee rests with the enrolled music student in consultation with the performance studies instructor.
Applications for a Semester 2 (Spring) recital must be submitted to the Administrative Assistant of the music department no later than February 20th 2023.
