GRATON GREEN GROUP GARDEN MEMBERSHIP
  • GRATON GREEN GROUP'S COMMUNITY GARDEN MEMBERSHIP AGREEMENT

    Updated March 2025
  • The Community Garden (CG) is under the jurisdiction of the Graton Green Group (GGG) an independent non-profit organization. The Community Garden Policy informs our operations. The mission of this garden is to provide access to gardening space for those who may not have access where they live. We want anyone in our community to participate if they want to. The $20 membership fee gives access to the assigned garden bed from May 1st-April 30th. This program is for residents of Graton and the surrounding area only.

  • Your responsibilities as a CG member:

    1. Care for your plot year-round from May 1st through April 30th, practice organic gardening, and harvest only for non-commercial use.
    2. Keep your plot and the surrounding paths clean, visually pleasing, and free of weeds. Use only aesthetically approved means for defending your plot against birds and rodents. (For example, No white PVC pipe.)
    3. Be mindful of water usage and return hose to stand.
    4. Obtain permission from another member before harvesting from their plot.
    5. Pay the (non-refundable) membership fee of $20 by May 1st.
    6. Complete & sign this CG membership agreement and the CG liability release form.
    7. The Graton Green Group will contact you to pick out a plot and give you access to the garden’s water supply.
    8. Please contact us at gratongreen@gmail.com with any questions.
  • Your rights as a Community Garden member:

    1. Have one plot to grow food and/or ornamentals. (No cannabis can be grown on the Graton Green)
    2. Have basic amenities such as water and soil.
    3. Option to transfer to a vacated plot before it is offered to a new gardener.
  • Rules regarding CG plots and membership:

    1. Members are limited to one plot.
    2. New member wait lists are in order of the date of request initiated through the Graton Green Group. Existing member requests to transfer to a vacated plot are in order of seniority of the requesting members. Maximum one plot transfer per year per member.
    3. Members who do not meet their responsibilities will be asked by the Membership Committee to return to full participation. If they do not, their plot may be re-assigned and/or their membership ended. Members temporarily unable to meet their responsibilities may request an exception.
    4. As this is a community garden in a public space, there is no way to secure the garden beds or limit public access. Members acknowledge that theft or vandalism of the content of the garden beds, while discouraged by posted signage, is a possibility and an inherent risk when gardening in a public space. If a member is not comfortable with that risk we encourage them to seek an alternate place to garden.
