  • NOTICE

    Leeds Beckett University (the University) produces a range of published materials, online information and podcasts. The University often takes photographs, video and film images, including accompanying sound recordings of subjects (collectively referred to below as “Media”).  This Media is used to enhance and illustrate the University’s marketing materials and make them more motivating and inspiring to its audiences, as part of a contract with students, staff and other individuals to enable access to services and/or to produce podcasts to share the voices, experiences and expertise of our academic, student and graduate communities. This Media comprises personal data and by this form the University is seeking your consent for its use for the purposes set out below.

    For the purposes of the Data Protection Legislation (General Data Protection Regulation 2016 as incorporated into UK law under the UK European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018 (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA) the University is the organisation responsible for looking after your personal data (the “Data Controller”). We will process your personal data in accordance with GDPR and DPA and this notice and the University’s privacy notices explain how the University will use Media for marketing, promotional and information dissemination activities and the range of marketing channels the University may use. This includes, but is not limited to print and digital formats including:

    • Magazines and publications to promote the University and our academic schools, student life and the student experience
    • University websites and associated microsites
    • Direct mail and e-marketing
    • Posters and interactive posters
    • Banners
    • Billboard advertising
    • Broadcast Media (tv & radio) 
    • Plasma screens and television displays across the University
    • Personal computer desktops backgrounds and screensavers
    • Social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Snap Chat, Vero and YouTube
    • Podcast channels, including Beckett Talks
  • STORAGE

    Media will be stored securely on the University network and access is controlled and limited. All University staff receive training on data protection and how to handle data securely.

  • RETENTION

    Media will be held for a duration of five years. If we wish to continue using the Media after this time, we will only do so with further consent from you.

  • SHARING YOUR DATA

    Sometimes to achieve the purposes for which we are processing personal data we may need to share these with other organisations based within the European Economic Area, or if outside the European Economic Area, based in countries that have comparable levels of protection. We will not sell or share Media with third parties for their commercial purposes, but may licence appropriate third parties (such as other higher education institutions) to use Media to promote or disseminate information about the University, our Academic Schools, student life and the student experience.

    When this is required, we will securely transfer the Media to third parties acting on behalf of or engaged by the University for marketing, promotional and information dissemination purposes only.     Please note that all Media used on our website are accessible from outside the European Economic Area.

  • LEGAL BASIS FOR PROCESSING

    The legal basis under which processing of personal data may take place is your consent in accordance with GDPR Article 6(1)(a).

    If you have concerns about your rights (as detailed below) and the use of your Media, these can be raised with the Information Compliance Team at infocompliance@leedsbeckett.ac.uk or with the University’s Data Protection Officer at dpo@leedsbeckett.ac.uk

    You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office whom is the UK’s Data Protection Authority.

  • YOUR RIGHTS AND HOW TO EXERCISE THEM

    As a person whose personal data in the form of the Media above we are processing, you have rights in respect of that personal data:

    • To withdraw consent
    • To access your personal data that we process
    • To rectify inaccuracies in personal data that we hold about you if it is inaccurate or incomplete
    • To request the deletion or removal of your personal data where there is no compelling reason for its continued processing
    • To object to certain processing of your personal data
    • To restrict the processing of your personal data in certain ways

  • INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS

    Where Media are provided other than by employees in the course of their employment, the University may not own the intellectual property rights in the Media and your agreement to assign and/or waive those rights is therefore required.  By completing this consent form, you agree to the assignment to the University and or waiver of all intellectual property rights as set out in the below terms.

    The University will collect the following categories of personal education and course details, job title, career highlights, audio, video and film recordings visual images, obtained from you for the purposes of recording and publishing Media for the above purposes.

    By ticking the box below

    1. I give my consent and permission to the University (and any individuals, entities or others acting under its authority or on its behalf) to store, edit, publish or use my personal data and Media both internally and externally for the purposes of promoting, marketing the disseminating information about the University throughout the world using the marketing and other channels as detailed and set out in this notice.
    2. I irrevocably and with full title guarantee assign to the University without limitation all rights now or hereafter existing in my Media and agree that the University shall have the sole right to deal with my Media or any part of it in any way that they think fit for the above purposes.
    3. I agree that my Media or any part of it may be exhibited or otherwise however exploited in all media and formats now and hereafter created throughout the universe for five years, or such longer period that I consent to.
    4. I agree that the University shall be entitled to edit, copy, add to, adapt or translate my Media or any part of it for the above purposes at its discretion and in relation to my Media I hereby irrevocably waive in favour of the University, its assignees and licensees the benefit of all moral rights and performers' rights arising under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 or similar rights arising under the laws of any jurisdiction.
    5. The University may without my further consent use my Media for the above purposes more generally in all media and formats throughout the world now or hereafter created.
    6. I release and discharge the University (and any individuals, entities or others acting under its authority or on its behalf) from any and all claims and demands arising out of or in connection with the use of my Media for the above purposes,  including without limitation, any and all claims for invasion of privacy, right of publicity and defamation.
    7. This agreement is the entire agreement between me and the University relating to my Media.
    8. This agreement and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with it or its subject matter or formation (including non-contractual disputes or claims) shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the law of England and Wales
    9. Each party irrevocably agrees that the courts of England and Wales shall have non-exclusive jurisdiction to settle any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with this agreement or its subject matter or formation (including non-contractual disputes or claims).
