APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
The Youngstown OH Chapter of the Links, Incorporated,
WILL AWARD SCHOLARSHIPS FOR GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS, UNDER GRADUATES AND MASTERS DEGREE STUDENTS FROM TRUMBULL AND MAHONING COUNTIES, MEETING THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA BELOW.
SPECIAL NOTE - THIS APPLICATION WILL NEED TO BE COMPLETED IN ONE SESSION. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SAVE WORK AND COMPLETE LATER. BEFORE YOU START, PLEASE HAVE ALL THE NECESSARY INFORMATION READY TO COMPLETE THE APPLICATION.
THREE TYPES OF SCHOLARSHIPS WILL BE OFFERED.
1. THE YSU ENDOWED LINKS SCHOLARSHIP
CRITERIA:
- Must attend YSU
- Minority student of African ethnicity
- Graduating High School Seniors from high schools in Mahoning or Trumbull County
- Grade point average of 3.0 or above
- Submit official High School Transcript
- Two letters of recommendation from current or former teachers or principals.
- A brief essay about the following topics
a. How would receiving this scholarship impact your life?
b. What are your future plans after high school GRADUATION?
c. What are your future plans after college GRADUATION?
- Application must be submitted by deadline MAY 25, 2024
2. THE YOUNGSTOWN LINKS CHAPTER SCHOLARSHIP
CRITERIA:
- Be a minority student of African Ethnicity.
- Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA.
- Be enrolled full-time at a university or college
- Must be a high school senior enrolling at any college or university.
3. THE LINKS MENTAL HEALTH STUDIES SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was established in 2021 by the Mahoning County Mental Health and Recovery Board to assist an African American student, from Mahoning County who is majoring in an undergraduate degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology or related majors in Health and Human services. Also available to graduate students in Social Work or Counseling.
Criteria:
- African American student
- Student attending full-time or part-time at Youngstown State University or Kent State University
- Undergraduate Student majoring in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology or
related majors in Health or Human services
- Graduate Student majoring in Social Work or Counseling
- Student must be a resident of Mahoning County
- Student must have a 2.5 GPA
Terms:
A one-year scholarship that can be renewable annually, through the application and selection process as long as above eligibility requirements continue to be met. This scholarship will be up to $1,000 a year for a full time student, or up to $500 for a part-time student.
Selection:
Selection is to be made by the Youngstown Chapter of the Links, Inc.
This scholarship has a rolling deadline and can be awarded at anytime at the discretion of the committee.

Additional Criteria Required for all applicants - In addition to the above criteria all student must submit the following:

Submit official High School transcript or proof of current enrollment.

An essay of 150 words or more about the following topics:
a. How would receiving this scholarship impact your life?
b. What are your future plans after high school GRADUATION? (High school senior only)
c. What are your future plans after college GRADUATION? (High School senior and Current College Student)
- Have completed FAFSA -financial need is also a consideration
- Links or immediate family members (spouse, daughter, son, siblings, or grandchildren) shall not be permitted to apply for the Youngstown (OH) Chapter Scholarship.
- *Provide Acceptance letter of a Historically Black College or University- if Applying for the HBCU Scholarship
