EXPECTATIONS AND GUIDELINES
P.E. Uniform.
Students must wear appropriate physical education uniforms as follows:
- Shelton P.E. shirt.
- Shelton shorts or tracksuit or jogging pants.
- All-white socks with Shelton logo.
- All-white sneakers properly tied.
Swimming Attire
The swimming attire includes:
- Mandatory white Coolibar rash guard for K-1st grades (optional for 2nd -5th grades) on top of a black one-piece bathing suit for girls and black Speedo jammers for boys.
- Goggles.
- Silicone Shelton swim cap.
- Close-toe water shoes such as Crocs.
- All-white or Shelton logo official towel.
Students should bring their own personal toiletries, and they will change back into school uniform after class. Please note that once students are back from the pool they will change into their P.E. uniform, including their white tennis shoes, not Crocs. All items must be labeled with the student’s name.
Assessment
Students will be assessed in the areas of skill performance/content taught, and in the appropriate behavior and safety procedures followed in class. Assessments will follow the following learning progression scale:
1. Student exceeds the standard. The student was able to apply to game play, explain, analyze, etc. what was learned.
2. Student meets the standard. The student was able to demonstrate important concepts and skills taught.
3. Student is progressing toward the standard. They can recall basic/some information about concepts and skills taught. Prompting may be required.
4. Student is progressing toward the standard but requires assistance. Student has a limited ability to complete tasks independently.
Skills and Goals
A model student in physical education classes at Shelton Academy will:
1. Demonstrate competency in many movement forms and proficiency in a few movement forms.
2. Apply movement concepts and principles to the learning and development of motor skills.
3. Exhibit a physically active lifestyle.
4. Achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.
5. Develop a positive attitude and good character traits through physical activity and sports.
6. Demonstrate responsible personal and social behavior in keeping with the school’s Catholic identity and Code of Conduct.
Attendance Policy and Exemption from Activity
Temporary exemption from physical education classes should be requested by the parent(s) of individual students. If a child will need to be excused for more than one week, a physician’s excuse will be expected. Alternative activities or assignments may be given.
Code of Conduct
Students in physical education classes must abide by the behavior expectations in the Shelton Academy “Code of Student Conduct.” It is expected that all Shelton students contribute positively to the school community and demonstrate strong values and character throughout their interactions with faculty and fellow students. Students, teachers and parents understand that “the educational purposes of the schools are accomplished best in a climate of student behavior that is socially acceptable and conducive to the teaching and learning process.
Student misconduct that disrupts this process or that infringes upon the rights of other individuals will not be tolerated. Any violation of the Code of Student Conduct, or behavior that discredits the school during any physical education or athletics activity, will result in appropriate disciplinary action.
