Thank you so much for your interest in Kangatraining!
It is a wonderful postnatal fitness program, the benefits go far beyond just the physical and we can't wait for you and your bub to join us! Kangatraining is safe postnatal exercise, low impact fitness class specifically designed for mums and bubs, the ultimate babywearing dance based workout. We focus on rebuilding strength of the muscles affected by pregnancy and birth and beyond, through a fun & energetic class. Babies are worn in carriers as mums work up a sweat and are usually gently rocked to sleep with our smooth moves.
Before you can begin Kangatraining you must be given the all clear from your health professional at your postnatal check to start exercising again. This is anywhere from 6-10 weeks postpartum for a vaginal delivery and at least 12 weeks postpartum if you’ve had a C-section.
There is no age limit of babies as long as every mother participating in Kangatraining can wear their baby safely and comfortably. Older siblings are welcome too! You will need a baby carrier for class, but you do not need to own one as hire carriers are available on request. Maximum carrier weight varies depending on the brand and model, for example Manduca can hold up to 20kg.
Babywearing safety is of utmost importance during Kangatraining. Due to the level of movement & physical activity, there are particular babyweaing requirements we must adhere to, to ensure the safety of both mums & bubs. All carriers must meet T.I.C.K.S guidelines for safe babywearing and must support the baby’s natural sitting position (M-position - hip to knee). Babies must be worn facing you in the carrier, placed either on your front or on your back. Tandem carrying - whilst amazing! - is unfortunately not safe during Kangatraining. If you have twins, a few different options are available to you, please contact me for details.
All Kangatrainers are expertly trained in the best babywearing practices so we can help you assess whether or not your carrier is suitable for a Kanga class. Several different types of carriers are suitable for Kanga, including Manduca, Ergo, Boba, Tula, Kinderpak & Mei Tai. Carriers such as ring slings, stretchy wraps (e.g. hug-a-bub), carriers with little head support (e.g. mothers choice, baby Bjorn), narrow based carriers (e.g. Baby Bjorn/Safe n Sound) & outward facing carriers are unfortunately not suitable for Kangatraining and cannot be worn during class. If you don’t have a suitable carrier, we have a limited selection of great carriers that you can hire for class.
As a Kangatrainer I am an authorised reseller of many carrier brands including Manduca, Tula, Ergo, Beco, Boba, Ankalia and more. This is a great Bonus for You - If you purchase a carrier through Kangatraining you won’t pay the RRP and a personalised fitting from me AND ongoing assistance with any fitting enquiries. If you’re interested, or know anyone who needs a carrier and would like to find out more, please let me know.
KANGA CLASS INFO:
We all know it can be a bit daunting to attend a new class for the first time. Heck, it’s an accomplishment in itself just leaving the house some days! But we aim to set you and your baby at ease right away so please make sure you arrive 15 mins prior to the start of your first class.
We will go through your health questionnaire with you or provide one for you to complete if you haven’t done so. This is a chance to discuss any injuries or birth related concerns such as weak pelvic floor etc. I can also check your abdominals to check if there is any muscle separation so we can tailor the exercise accordingly to your needs. (this is done with your permission and over your clothes).
I will run through the structure of the class and answer any questions. A Kanga class goes for an hour - we do a warm up with babies in our arms, floor strengthening exercises with babies beside us on a mat and only then we put babies into carriers ;-). In every class your baby comes first so you are encouraged to do whatever you need to do to ensure you and your baby are comfortable (a nappy change and feed before class are a good start!).
WHAT TO BRING TO CLASS:
- Water bottle
- Baby Carrier (if you have one that is suitable) Pram for KangaMix if you prefer
- Supplies for baby
- Blanket for bubs to lie down on during floorwork
- Yogamat for you
-Toys/Entertainment/Snacks for older children (recommended)
- Sunscreen, Hat and Repellent (if attending outdoor class)
