Are gloves available at point of need and in plentiful supply?

Are alternative gloves readily available for staff with allergies, e.g. nitrile?
Are gloves used and disposed of after each task?
Are there sufficient hand washing facilities with handwashing agent and paper towels nearby?

Observe staff cleaning the environment - Do they use the correct colour coding tools, e.g. red mops for high risk areas like bathrooms and not cross contaminate other areas?
Is the flow of cleaning done properly, e.g. leave the toilet/bathroom till the end after cleaning the room?
Observe cleaning fluids, are they in original containers, or if dispensed are they clearly labelled and stored in the appropriate container?
Are all chemicals stored in a locked cupboard?
Is the cleaning trolley locked away when not in use?
Are COSHH sheets available for all chemicals used?
Are there any lingering odours with an incident of incontinence?
Are all areas within Exclusive Secure Care clean and dust free? Check high footfall areas.
Are carpets hoovered and stain free?
Do all towel dispensers have enough paper towels?
Do waste bins have a disposable bag within them and not more than three quarters full?
Are lifting aids, such as hoists, clean? – Look underneath.
Are raised toilet seats clean? – Look underneath.

Mattress/Pillow Health
