We’d really like to find out how you feel about the establishment of an art prize to celebrate and recognise the work of Tasmanian Aboriginal women artists.
Women’s Art Prize Tasmania and Bell Bay Aluminium (part of the Rio Tinto Group) are keen to offer a prize dedicated to recognising the work of the amazing talent and creativity of Tasmanian Aboriginal women artists.
Bell Bay Aluminium has been supporting Tasmanian women artists, through the art prize known then as Material Girl since 2002. The future of the award was held in the balance when its managing company closed in 2017. At this time, Bell Bay Aluminium provided support to the newly formed, RANT Arts Limited to conduct a detailed community survey and consultation.
Out of this, a strong desire for change and transformation of the award became evident, while still acknowledging the importance of Material Girl's long and rich history.
A reformed and newly reshaped award was launched in 2019 as the Women's Art Prize Tasmania to continue the vision for fostering the development of artist women in Tasmania and celebrating their creativity and talent.
The ongoing support of Bell Bay Aluminium, Trawalla Foundation, the Area Five Zonta Clubs Tasmania, Walker Design, Think Big Printing and the Tasmanian Government's Department of Premier and Cabinet has made it possible. We warmly welcome your thoughts and thank you for your time.
