    The Maude Kerns Art Center is seeking a Summer Arts Education Intern who will support our summer programs for our youth, middle school, and high school students! As a nonprofit organization focused on arts education, the Art Center offers weekly summer camp programs for youth (ages 6-11), MS labs (ages 11 -14), and HS labs (ages 14-17). The position begins June 15th and ends the week of August 21st, (the week of July 6th - July 10th will be off due to the holiday). Youth camps run 8:30-3:00 pm for our youth camps and 9 am -12 pm for both our middle school and high school labs. Each week of our summer camp/lab program has a different theme and will focus on working with a variety of art materials and processes.

    Position Description: The Summer Arts Education Intern will predominantly work with our youth camps and be responsible for helping the Director of Arts Education and instructors with daily classroom activities, assisting students with art projects, monitoring students behavior and providing positive support, and general supervision during outdoor breaks. The intern's work day begins at 8:00 am and ends at 3:15 pm. 


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Experience working with students ages 6 -17
    • Experience with a wide variety of art practices (ceramics, painting in various mediums, printmaking, drawing, 3-D sculpting, 2-D design, and more)
    • Comfortable with behavior management and willingness to learn
    •  1 - 2 clear internship learning goals 
    • Experience working with a variety of lived experiences and creating an accessible,  inclusive, safe environment for creativity to flourish for all participants
    • The ability to pass a background check is required

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Completed or seeking a degree in Arts or Arts Education

     

    Internship Dates: June 15th, 2025 - Week of August 21st, 2026 (July 6th - July 10th off due to holiday. End date flexible to meet needs for resetting classrooms)


    Hours: 8:00 am - 3:15 pm (includes 2 - 10 minute breaks & 1 hour lunch)


    Pay Rate: $15.05 per hour

    Interview Process: Emails will be sent out to set an interview date/time. You will be asked a series of questions about your teaching experience (please refer to the minimum qualifications and preferred qualifications). Plan for a 45-minute interview. Tour of the main classroom studio may be available. Based on the number of interviews, the Director of Art Education will email you the final decision after all interviews are completed and references are checked.
