Position Summer Art Education Paid Internship 2024

The Maude Kerns Art Center is seeking a temporary Summer Arts Education Intern who will collaborate with our summer programs: youth camps and young adult labs! As a nonprofit organization focused on arts education, the Maude Kerns Art Center offers weekly summer camp programs for youth (ages 6-11) and middle school labs (ages 11-15). The intern position begins June 10th and ends August 23rd, (week of July 1-5 off due to the holiday). Youth camps run 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. The middle school labs run 9:00 am - 12:00 pm. Each week of our summer camps and labs have a different theme and will focus on working with a variety of art materials and processes.
Position Description The Summer Arts Education Intern will predominantly work with our youth age group and be responsible for helping the Director of Arts Education and instructors with daily classroom activities, assisting students with art projects, and monitoring students during outside breaks. The intern will work Monday - Friday, starting at 8:15 am and ending at 5:15 pm. Internship hours are strongly encouraged. The Director of Arts Education will work with the intern on completing internship goals. This is a paid internship.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience working with children between ages 6 -15
- Experience with a wide variety of art practices (ceramics, painting in various mediums, printmaking, drawing, 3-D sculpting, 2-D design, stop-motion filming, and more)
- Comfortable with behavior management or willingness to learn
- Must have 2 clear internship learning goals
- Ability an accessible, inclusive, and safe environment for creativity to flourish for all participants
- Proficient at working with adults and children from different backgrounds.
- Ability to pass a background check is required
Preferred Qualifications
- Completed or seeking a degree in Arts or Arts Education

Pay Rate $14.20 per hour

Interview Process Email outreach to set an interview date/time. You will asked a series of questions will be asked about your teaching and learning experiences (please refer to the minimum qualifications and preferred qualifications). Plan for a 45-minute interview. Tour of the main classroom studio may be available if there isn’t a class taking place. Based on the number of interviews, the Director of Arts Education will email you the final decision after all interviews are completed and references are checked. A Background check is required if you decide to proceed with our on-boarding process.
