Barrio Dogs Adoption Contract

Barrio Dogs' goal is to place our rescued animals into permanent, loving homes. That is why our contract asks so many detailed questions. Many of our dogs have been rescued from bad conditions and we want to ensure they are happy and healthy in their new home. We do not adopt dogs on a "first come, first served" basis and reserve the right to decline any contract.

Barrio Dogs' nonrefundable adoption fee for dogs is $125. This amount covers some of the cost of spaying or neutering, testing, treating and vaccinating the dog but rarely all the expenses.

I agree to let a Barrio Dogs, Inc. representative visit my home prior to adoption to do a home check. I also agree to allow a BD representative to visit my home to do follow-up checks on the animal. I UNDERSTAND THAT BARRIO DOGS MAY TERMINATE THIS CONTRACT AND REMOVE THE ANIMAL FROM MY HOME IF ANY OF THE CONDITIONS HEREIN ARE NOT BEING MET OR IF BARRIO DOGS REASONABLY BELIEVES THE ANIMAL IS BEING MISTREATED OR NEGLECTED.*

I agree that I will never sell, trade or give away this pet or relinquish it to a shelter or pound, whether “no-kill” or otherwise. I will notify Barrio Dogs if I am unable or unwilling to keep the pet and will return it to Barrio Dogs after arrangements have been made for its return. If the pet is lost or stolen, I will notify Barrio Dogs within 24 hours. I will keep tags on the dog with current information at all times*

I agree that all future medical and health maintenance treatments are my responsibility unless Barrio Dogs has specifically agreed to pay for them under the “Special Provisions” section of this contract. I agree to administer monthly heartworm preventative to the dog year-round. If the dog is heartworm positive, I agree to take it to my veterinarian for proper heartworm treatment and will follow the vet’s instructions and recommendations. I will not use any over-the-counter flea preventative and only medication purchased from my vet.*

During this pet’s entire lifetime, I will protect it with annual vaccinations and routine medical care and health maintenance as recommended by my veterinarian. I will seek immediate veterinary care if this pet becomes ill or is injured.*

The pet will be primarily indoors interacting with me and my family and will not to be banished to the back yard. I will never tie my dog to a chain or rope or leave it unattended for long periods of time.*

I AGREE THAT THE PET SHALL NOT BE PHYSICALLY ALTERED IN ANY MANNER (docking tails, cropping ears, declawing, etc.) at any time. I understand and agree that if I do alter the pet, it will constitute breach of this contract and agree to relinquish the animal to Barrio Dogs.*

I agree to comply with all state and local ordinances related to the confinement, care, and licensing of this pet. I will reclaim the pet promptly and pay any required fees if it is picked up by an animal control agency. Rabies and ID tags will be kept on the animal at all times*

I understand that this is a rescued animal and that its living conditions and treatment prior to rescue are probably unknown. Barrio Dogs, Inc. does not make any guarantees regarding the age, nature, temperament, disposition or health of this pet. I assume all risk and responsibility of ownership of this pet once it is in my possession. I agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Barrio Dogs, Inc. and its agents against any and all claims including claims of property damage and/or personal injury which may arise from my adoption of this pet.*
