PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics (Penn LDI) is seeking applications from LDI Senior Fellows for the 2021-2022 cohort of Amplify@LDI. In support of LDI’s mission to catalyze and facilitate research to improve the nation’s health system and shape health care policy, Amplify@LDI aims to amplify the reach and impact of policy-relevant research and elevate LDI Senior Fellows as content and policy experts. The program builds capacity in and enthusiasm for the critical step of translating and disseminating research to broad national audiences, to maximize the reach and impact of LDI Senior Fellow research.
PROGRAM ELEMENTS:
COHORT EXPERIENCE:
The Amplify@LDI cohort will be comprised of 12 LDI Senior Fellows from across schools, fields, ranks, methods, and translation experience. The program will provide an opportunity to network with a wide range of faculty.
WORKSHOP SESSIONS:
Amplify@LDI includes an orientation and goal-setting session, 6 content sessions, and a closing session, for a total of 8 sessions. Each content session focuses on a different aspects of research translation and dissemination. Topics include Media Engagement and Interviewing; Increasing Social Media Reach; Writing and Placing Op-eds; Writing Blogs and Briefs; and Policy Engagement. In addition to the skills-based content, each session will also address structural barriers to successful translation and dissemination, as well as strategies for incorporating translation and dissemination activities into busy academic careers.
SCHEDULE:
All 8 sessions will take place from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on the second Friday of the month from September 2021 to April 2022. The program will include a hybrid of in-person and virtual sessions, in accordance with University policy. Fellows are asked when applying to commit to attend all 8 sessions in order to get the most from the program.
GOAL SETTING AND TRACKING:
All participants will set goals for their participation in the Amplify@LDI program. LDI staff will support participants in tracking and meeting their goals throughout the year.
HOMEWORK AND TRIO MEETINGS:
In between sessions, participants will be expected to submit “homework” for the upcoming session, and to meet with two other participants to debrief the previous session.
ONE-ON-ONE SESSIONS WITH PRESENTERS:
Following several of the sessions, program participants will have the opportunity to sign up for a one-on-one session with the presenter(s).
FINAL PRESENTATIONS:
Participants will have the opportunity to present their policy engagement and research translation achievements at the end of the program.
ELIGIBILITY: All LDI Senior Fellows – from any school and rank – who are actively engaged in policy-relevant research and eager to build skills in translation and dissemination are eligible and encouraged to apply.
