  • May 2023 LVLPWA Camp Out Registration Form

  • PWA Holiday Charities (Houston) and the Texas Conference of Clubs are proud to help organize the outdoor camping trips for adults living with HIV/AIDS and their support group.

In 1995, Marvin Davis, aka Lady Victoria Lust, had a dream.  His dream was to have a place where HIV+ men could meet without fear of rejection because of their status, a place where they could talk about their disease and network with others to learn how to manage their disease better.  He founded the LVLPWA camp out with that dream in mind. After he passed, John Szewczyk took the reins and kept the dream alive until his death in 2011. In 2022 we continue their dream.

  • You Are

  • Please - No Wednesday Arrival

  • To help us plan future camp outs, we would like to know more about how you heard about us. If you heard from a friend, tell us who so we can thank them. If you found us on the web, how did you find our web site? If an agency mentioned our camp out, which agency?

We try to get word out to everyone we can about the camp out, and knowing how you found out about us helps us figure out other ways to promote future camp outs.

  • Volunteers are essential to make our camp out a success!

There are many things that need to be done before, during, and after the camp out. We need to get the campground ready for the camp out, and we need help when the camp out ends to make sure the campground is ready for the next group.

This is an all volunteer campout, everyone arriving Thursday is expected to volunteer and help get the campground ready.

  • There are a number of areas where we need volunteers:

Groundskeeping — includes mowing, raking, branch cutting and hauling and many other tasks needed to keep the campground looking great and ready for our campers.

Traffic Control & Parking — includes helping control traffic into and out of the tenting areas so campers can unload camping gear. We need someone in the parking lot to make sure cars are parked in the right spots so we can accommodate everyone.

Facilities Cleaning & Trash — make sure the main bathroom, the compound area bathroom and shower, and the shower room are clean, make sure toilets have plenty of toilet paper. Check the trash containers located throughout the campground, and if full, tie up the bag and set it out for trash run, and place a new liner in the trash container.

Food Preparation & Cooking — help with the many tasks of putting on a meal. There is always chopping and other food prep needed. Food lines need to be set up for each meal with utensils and the necessary condiments. Items to be served need to be moved from the walk-in cooler or oven to the food serving areas.

Food Serving & Cleanup — assist serve food during meals. Food preparation goes on all weekend, and there are always pots, pans, and utensils that need to be washed and put away. The eating area needs to be policed, the cigarette butt cans emptied, and the trash containers in the eating and kitchen area checked, and if full, tie up the bag and set it out for the trash run, and place a new liner in the trash container.

Camping gear check in/out - Help at registration with handing out the tents, sleeping bags, etc  to the campers that need them and assist after camp in putting them back in order in the storage buildings.

Other — is there something you can help us with that we haven't covered? If so, please list it.

  • Your Donation

  • Your $25 donation helps cover the cost of the camp out. Entertainers perform at camp out fundraisers hosted by community social groups, such as PWA Holiday Charities in Houston, the Debris Sisters in Houston, Texas and the Trinity River Bears, the United Court of the Lone Star Empire  and Wall Of Food in the Dallas - Fort Worth metroplex, to help provide additional funds.

The Texas Conference of Clubs maintains a Wi-Fi at the campground. You can pay the small $10 weekend fee for Wi-Fi by credit card after your arrival at the campground.

Those who wish to pay with cash rather than credit card can do so at the registration desk.

The pay online button is on the contact page.

  • Your Camping Choice

  • There are a limited number of beds in the bunkhouse, and we give preference is to those with medical needs. Anyone staying in the bunkhouse must supply their own bedding; none is furnished by either TCC or LVLPWA.

We have a supply of tents, sleeping bags, and air mattresses available to loan.

  • No bunkhouse or equipment requests accepted after the application cuttoff date.

  • The bunkhouse has a limited number of sleeping spaces. There are four twin bunk beds and two queen bunk beds.

Bed requests are on a first come, first served basis, with health concerns taking priority.

Requesting space in the bunkhouse on your application does not guarantee you a bed. It only puts you on a waiting list.

Bunkhouse assignments will not be made before the application cutoff date. You will be advised whether or not you are assigned a space after the cutoff date.

After you fill out your application, if you find you will not be able to attend the camp out, please let us know so we can take your name off the bunkhouse request list.

  • We have a limited number of  RV spaces that are first come, first served. all have electric hookups, but none have water.

  • Transportation

  • Parking is tight at the campground for large groups. We encourage friends who plan to attend to ride share. Ridesharing saves on your costs and helps the limited parking at the campground!

If you can help out a camper who doesn't have transportation, please check the "I can provide a ride" box and we'll help match you up with a rider if there is someone in your area who has no transportation.

We cannot guarantee a ride if you need one, but we will do everything possible to try to line you up with someone who can provide you with a ride to and from the campground. We do not begin to help match up rides until after the cutoff date. We will not have information regarding rides before the cutoff date.

If you have already made arrangements with someone to get or give a ride, you do not need to check a box. Only check the box if you need us to help with ride arrangements.

After you fill out your application, if you find you will not be able to attend the campout, please let us know so we can take your name off the ride list.

No ride requests accepted after the application cutoff date.

  • The parking permits we issue at the check-in desk have worked well to help us contact car owners when we need a vehicle moved. There have been times when we needed to contact the car owner before the parking permit is put on the dashboard. To help us out, please let us have your license plate number.

  • Your Arrival

  • In order to better prepare for meals, camping equipment, and other aspects of the camp out, we are asking for some additional information for the camp out. We know that plans and schedules change, but most everyone has an idea when they will arrive at the camp out. Knowing your arrival should enable us to better plan for food and to ensure camping equipment is available for those who need it.

Please remember to let us know if you need to cancel so we can adjust our food plan.

    Please select your arrival time:

  • TCC grants groups holding a weekend event one extra day [Thursday] before the event to set up.

Please do not arrive at the campground before Thursday.

  • Cocktail Party

  • Please choose the time from the list that you'd like to share your favorite drink with your fellow campers. Decorate a table, make your favorite cocktail (bring your liquor of choice, your favorite mix, cups, and any snacks you'd like to serve with you when you're packing for the weekend). LVLPWA will supply the ice!

LVLPWA has no idea how many people will choose to attend a cocktail party, so it's up to you to decide how much of your favorite drink you want to make and serve. Also, conside offering a "virgin" option so our non-drinkers can feel welcome at your party!

Look at the schedule page and email lvlpwa@gmail.com if you would like to reserve one of the open slots.
