Please ensure you have read and understood the information below BEFORE completing the Self-Declaration and Checklist
Step 1 – Cleaning, Handwashing and Hygiene Procedures
- Ensure that employees can wash their hands/sanitise their hands and are reminded to do so often.
- Hand sanitiser is available for customers (and staff where required).
- Display suitable signage and (where possible) PA announcements on hand washing.
- Additional cleaning of premises and frequently contacted surfaces.
- Where possible, work equipment is allocated to one employee only.
Step 2 – Social Distancing & Calculation of Max Capacity in premises
- Ensure that you are adhering to the government’s guidelines on social distancing e.g. calculate the maximum capacity for each area using 2m social distancing requirements and consider display maximum number prominently at entrances to the premises and procedure in place to ensure compliance.
- Implement queue control systems inside premises (and outside if applicable), place arrows and distance marking on the floor to mark distances, consider one-way systems to allow customers and employees to keep 2 meters away from each other.
- Ensure good ventilation.
- The use of screens at cash point and customer service points etc. is recommended.
Step 3 – Promoting Respiratory Hygiene (Catch it, Bin it, Kill it)
- All staff have been properly trained on good respiratory hygiene i.e. when coughing and sneezing, cover your mouth and nose with elbow or tissue – discard tissue immediately into a closed bin and clean your hands with soap and water.
- Ensure staff and customers wear face coverings as required.
- As required provide staff with appropriate PPE and ensure it is updated as and when necessary.
Step 4 – Employee Health
- Ensure all staff have been consulted and are up to date with Covid19 risk assessment controls.
- Remind staff of regular hand washing/sanitising and social distancing controls.
- The business should follow PHA’s guidelines for return to work in the event that any employees have symptoms.
- Encourage employees to look after their mental health.
- Vulnerable/high-risk employees may have to be given alternative work activities.
Step 5 – Covid19 Risk Assessment
- Complete a suitable and sufficient Covid19 risk assessment of your premises taking account of all relevant public health and government guidance.
- Consult staff when carrying out the Covid19 risk assessment and ensure staff are aware and implement the necessary control measures.
- The control measures you adopt must meet the particular conditions of your workplace and may be different from those in the example risk assessment (see attached links below).
- Your Covid19 risk assessment should include the details of the above steps 1-4 as well.
- You can download a full template for completing your assessment at https://www.hseni.gov.uk/publications/example-covid-19-risk-assessment-template.
