Let’s turn our attention to a few of the outcomes we target. This is where the rubber meets the road. Our outcomes include pathways to positive shifts in: knowledge, skills, abilities, choices, behaviors, and behavioral intentions.

Our training services are: model teaching, co-teaching, facilitation, and co-facilitation. We also offer supervision and implementation monitoring for those who wish to implement one of our programs with fidelity as an intervention or as therapy.

We focus on improving executive functioning and building five key competencies in ways that are culturally familiar, relevant, and responsive, in times like these. The competencies we address are: behavioral, cognitive, emotional, moral, and social. These are all competencies associated with optimal youth development, and when introduced early, result in positive vs. adverse childhood experiences.

Let’s turn our attention to something new, but tried and proven. Let talk about an integrated, evidence-based approach to teaching, learning, enrichment, and therapy. This new approach connects popular music and social media to new ways to address standards of learning in five content areas. Problem solving, value-driven decision making, stress reduction, and communication are all at the core of this new approach.

Most people who are introduced to the MusicsEnergy: Life Literacy Curriculum come away “seeing” things differently. We believe this is because when asked “doUCwhatIC” and when invited to tag and talk about what you see, it’s hard to mistake what you see as being intentional and programmed and available on demand. Young people, and adolescents in particular, are clearly embedded in a broader culture that places some at higher risk for negative outcomes compared to others.

Given this reality, MusicsEnergy leverages the broad appeal of popular music and media for pro-social teaching, learning, enrichment, and therapy. Imagine if we used music to help young people - and those who support them in formal and informal settings - become more self and socially aware, as well as more competent academically, behaviorally, emotionally, morally, and socially.

Imagine, if we teach young people the skills to identify and solve personal and social problem by using their knowledge of history to deconstruct contemporary manifestations of dis-ease. What if we use this foundation to help set goals, make informed decisions, and choose from among the options, the best ones.

And what if more people learned healthy coping skills, self-regulation, and how to recognize triggers? How might examining communication norms over time, help us improve the way we communicate today with each other, in times like these?

Professional Development is how we introduce evidence-based approaches to engaged teaching, learning, enrichment, and therapy. MusicsEnergy has been evaluated and peer reviewed as an intervention that engages young people using music and media as content and context to build five key competencies and promote critical thinking about health and community wellness.

By fostering curiosity, grit, and perseverance, we teach the benefits of a strong resolve to succeed and to overcome obstacles.
