Metal Southend invite young people and their teachers from 10 local primary schools to take part in a month-long artist-led programme in schools, taking place in June 2022, with additional CPD opportunities for local teachers and artists.
4 x sessions per school
1 x sharing event / performance
2 x CPD sessions - 1 for teachers by artists, 1 for artists by teachers.
This programme focuses on hands-on learning from professional artists and creative practitioners from the community, offering young people and their teachers a chance to explore new art forms and enjoy creative learning/wellbeing experiences that are intrinsically linked to the cultural ecosystems of Southend. This programme will celebrate creativity in all forms - including poetry, theatre, music, visual arts, dance, writing, curation, sculpture and more - culminating in a ‘sharing’ at each school.
Pupils can discover new art forms and creative careers on their doorstep.
Teachers can find inspiration in how creativity can impact their classroom, whilst building relationships with local artists.
Artists can learn from teachers about how best to work with schools and bring their practice to the classroom.

Please note : One application per primary school.
We ask for your support in delivering the CPD session for artists to draw on your experience and expertise.
We will work with you to find a brilliant local practitioner who compliments the nature, needs and curriculum of your school. We will select schools based on their response to how the school will benefit and how the school will ensure the project reaches the right pupils.
This project is aimed specifically at supporting pupils most in need; for whom accessing culture and creativity is a challenge or for whom a project liked this could have significant impact on their wellbeing. Who these pupils are in your school will be best known to you and we will rely upon you to select the right participants in a way that you feel is effective, sensitive and appropriate
Apply by 31 December 2021.
We will confirm successful schools in January and begin consultation in March.
