College Park Mayor's Ball - Fundraising Efforts support the College Park Mayor Jack Longino Scholarship Fund

In November of 2018, the City of College Park hosted the Mayor's Ball at the Georgia International Convention Center in the City of College Park. This event was open for all to attend. Mayor Jack P. Longino wanted to support high school students in College Park, that did not achieve beyond a 3.0 grade point average (GPA), by offering them financial assistance to further their education after graduating high school. Without a B average or higher GPA, some students do not qualify for many scholarships. With that in mind, Mayor Longino initiated fundraising efforts to provide assistance for students who ranked just shy of the Georgia HOPE Scholarship criteria. Thus, the College Park Mayoral Second Hope Scholarship fund was created. The scholarship has now been named the College Park Mayor Jack Longino Scholarship.

Mayor Jack P. Longino and the City of College Park are committed to expanding educational opportunities for high school students that do not meet the GPA criteria for the GA Hope Scholarship; dismissing their ability to advance beyond secondary education. By assisting students as noted with scholarship funding, College Park provides supplemental financial assistance for families that otherwise would not have the means to offer to the prospective student. This is very important because our children are our future. What do we mean by "our future?" We understand that for our community to continue to grow and develop, we have to groom our youth to move into the roles of being quality citizens, that can offer their time and talent in their community, while returning support accordingly. Graduating seniors, living in the City of College Park, who do not meet the criteria for the Georgia HOPE program at graduation, can apply for the College Park Mayor Jack Longino Scholarship.

Elgibilty

Applicants must meet all of the following conditions:

U.S. Citizen or proof of eligibility for non-citizen.

Residency of College Park, Georgia.

High School Graduate of current school year.

Acceptance with the intent of attending an accredited college, university or technical program for the Fall term of the academic year.

GPA range: 2.5-2.99 on a 4.0 GPA scale as of the end of the graduating semester.

Requirements:

Proof of Residency in the City of College Park, Georgia for at least 12 full months.

Proof of a High School Diploma (or transcript Submission of acceptance letter from a technical college or 2-4 year college or university program.

Submission of 2 recommendation letters (cannot be a family member or associate

Submission of profile essay by offered deadline: 500 or more words on "Why furthering education is important and the importance of receiving financial aid."
