    Abstract:

Purpose: Conference app is logically considered a green information system (IS) because its use reduces negative impact on the environment. Therefore, the use of conference apps is promoted throughout the conference industry but its adoption is relatively underexplored. This study aims to investigate predictors of behavioral intentions to adopt conference apps by attendees.

Design/methodology/approach: This is a quantitative study. The survey method is used to collect data from conference attendees using the online Qualtrics platform. The survey instrument was adapted from the Modified Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was utilized to identify relationships between variables and hypotheses testing. Robustness tests were performed using the equivalent model and bootstrapping analyses.

Findings: This study shows that attitude and ecological beliefs play a significant role in conference app adoption in contrast to performance expectancy, social influence, and facilitating conditions as suggested in the traditional technology acceptance literature.

Originality/value: This study is unique as it provides empirical evidence of the need to assess green IS adoption differently than traditional technology adoption. Findings have high implications for conference organizers to develop effective communication strategies for green attendees.
