    • CANADA’S ANTI-SPAM LAW

Canada’s Anti-Spam Law (CASL) came into effect on July 1, 2014.  CASL prohibits sending commercial electronic messages (CEM) to an electronic address unless the sender has the consent of the recipient. CEM must also have prescribed content such as sender identification, sender contact information, and an “unsubscribe” mechanism. The vast majority of information distributed by the Regina Catholic School Division (RCSD) and your school is operational, not commercial, and is therefore not affected by this legislation. That said, some school newsletters and communications may sometimes include messages that fall under the scope of the anti-spam legislation. We are therefore requesting your consent to communicate with you electronically regarding activities that might be characterized as commercial, such as invitations to purchase school photographs, team or school wear, yearbooks, whether RCSD or the school send those messages directly to you or include them in electronic publication such as newsletters.  You may revoke your consent to receive these messages at any time by contacting your local school or by using the “unsubscribe” instructions that the RCSD will provide in any communications that could be considered a CEM.

    • COMMUNICATION IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS

In emergencies or urgent situations, we may send important information by email, phone, and text to a student’s primary and Emergency Contacts. Calls and text messages will come from a toll-free number, 1-877-731-4160. Emergency emails will come from noreply@schoolbundle.ca. Please note this address is not monitored, and you cannot reply to it. You can revoke your consent at any time by contacting the school office.

I consent to Regina Catholic Schools sending communication to my child’s primary and Emergency Contacts by email, phone, and text message (also known as SMS).

    • “NO” means you are declining critical emergency communications. This means we will NOT notify you directly in urgent situations like a school fire, severe weather event, or a police emergency like a lockdown.

Please reconsider. Your consent helps us keep you informed and your family safe.

    • RCSD ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY

Administrative Application 5102, Acceptable Use of Technology by Employees and Students applies to and establishes the expectations for all RCSD employees and students in the proper use of the Technology.  Inappropriate use of the Technology may expose the school division to legal liability and/or public embarrassment. The objective of this administrative application is to balance employee and student ability to fully benefit from informative technology against the school division’s need to ensure that all use of the Technology meets the school division's legal obligations and upholds the Division's reputation and public image. All employees and students are expected to act in a manner that is appropriate for an educational institution. This includes an expectation that employees and students will use the Technology in a manner that is consistent with the realization that such use may become public, and in a manner that does not expose RCSD to legal liability, or public embarrassment. This application applies to all Technology and any use of this Technology by any school division employee or student. This application attempts to address most issues relating to the use of the Technology. However, where an issue arises that is not specifically dealt with in this application, RCSD employees and students are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with the general principles that are outlined in this application.

    • 1:1 Technology Agreement

Regina Catholic Schools Division has transitioned to 1:1 technology in grades 4-8. Each student will be assigned a device. The device that your child has been assigned is an educational tool and should be used in that capacity.

Regina Catholic School Division expects our students to follow our Acceptable Use Policy and practice good digital citizenship while using this device. The device remains the property of RCSD. As part of our commitment to cybersecurity and digital citizenship, we do equip our devices with cybersecurity software.

      • All technology is the property of the Regina Catholic School Division. Regina Catholic School Division will maintain and update devices periodically.
      • If the technology assigned to your child is lost, stolen, or damaged through negligence or vandalism, you are responsible for the cost of repairs or replacement. The approximate replacement cost of the technology is $350.00.

    • LEAVING GROUNDS FOR LUNCH

Staying at school for lunch is a privilege. Schools are responsible for bussed students. All parents/guardians are asked to register their student’s arrangements in one of the following categories:
      • Home – the student will be going home for lunch on a regular basis.
      • School – the student will remain at school for lunch unless excused with a note from the parent/guardian.
      • Both – the student will either stay at school or go home for lunch on an irregular basis.

    • Lunchroom Supervision Guidelines

      1. I acknowledge that my child will be staying at school over the lunch hour, requiring supervision, and understand that noon supervision fees will be applied to my child and are required to be paid in full during the school year.

      2. I understand that on October 20th, KEV/SchoolCash will email me if applicable fees have been applied to my child's account: $80 per student (Grades 1–8), $40 (Kindergarten), with a $160 maximum per family for elementary noon supervision.

      3. I understand that I can pay the fees using SchoolCash online, or I can pay cash or cheque with the school Office Manager. Partial payments can be made on SchoolCash.

    • EXCURSIONS

My child has permission to go on teacher planned and teacher supervised out of school excursions within the City of Regina. This permission is given on the understanding that the excursion is part of the regular class work. The teacher will provide information regarding each excursion prior to the planned activity by either a letter, email or a signed note in the agenda. Out of city excursions will have a separate consent form and will be sent with detailed information prior to the trip.
    • SERVANT LEADERSHIP

Throughout the year students are asked to be servant leaders within our buildings. Often times this involves helping with assemblies, special events or other manual tasks that support their school community. Some of the jobs involve working with the school's caretaking staff moving tables, shovelling snow, stacking chairs, or doing other odd jobs. These jobs help build community and a sense of ownership.

Please review Administrative Application 9220, Student Duties and Conduct and Administrative Application 10125, Student Safety Protocols with Custodial Staff and indicate below if you are comfortable giving consent for your child to help out around the school.

    • RELEASE OF INFORMATION TO CATHOLIC PARISHES

Schools within RCSD receive requests from Catholic parishes for personal and private information for sacramental preparation (i.e. name, address, telephone number, date of birth). I consent to information being released to Catholic parishes.
    • PHOTO/VIDEO FOR CLASSROOM BLOGS/WEBSITES

Teachers may choose to communicate classroom learning through classroom blogs or websites. At times, photos of students or exemplars of student work may be shared.  I consent to my child or my child’s likeness being featured on a classroom blog or webpage.
    • DIGITAL TOOLS FOR EDUCATION PURPOSES

As part of RCSD’s commitment to Essential Skills and Practices in 21st Century Education, RCSD provides students with opportunities to work with a variety of digital learning tools. These learning tools are carefully selected for their educational value and compatibility with Saskatchewan curriculum to support and enhance learning. Some learning tools require that RCSD share limited personal information such as student’s name and division-provided email address for the purpose of creating an account to use the tool or service. The information shared is in compliance with The Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (LAFOIP). These tools may include, but are not limited to: Seesaw, Microsoft Teams, myBlueprint, Flipgrid, Adobe Spark, WeVideo, KnowledgeHook, Mathletics, RAZ Kids, etc.
    • INTERNAL MEDIA (REGINA CATHOLIC SCHOOLS)

From time to time, RCSD requires pictures of students for use in school/division slide shows, videos, brochures, RCSD websites, and so forth. I consent to my child appearing in motion pictures or still photographs being made of my child’s/ward’s likeness, acts, appearances; and sound records made of child’s/ward’s voice, by photographers or other personnel employed by or hired by Regina Catholic Schools for educational or other such purposes as deemed appropriate by the RCSD and/or school.

    • EXTERNAL MEDIA

News media occasionally ask to come into our schools to cover school events or do stories on a wide range of topics, a process that often includes interviewing and filming students (newspapers, television and radio).  The RCSD looks to respect the privacy of our students while working effectively with members of external news and media organizations.  Access to schools and students by external media organizations is strictly regulated by the RCSD. In instances deemed appropriate, RCSD and your local school, your child or student work may be photographed, filmed, and interviewed by members of external media. The external media organization may or may not identify your child by name. External media also includes RCSD advertising and promotional materials.
    • SOCIAL MEDIA

Teachers and schools use social media to communicate, celebrate, and inspire. Teachers are required to follow professional guidelines when posting. I consent to my child or my child’s likeness appearing in school or classroom social media to communicate, celebrate and inspire.

      • Students must adhere to all Board Policies and the Student Code of Conduct when accessing mobile services.
      • Students are fully responsible for the set-up and maintenance of their device. Technical support will not be provided.
      • The school/division does not provide personal property insurance for any personal technology devices which includes but is not limited to physical damage, loss or theft of the device.
      • Student devices are to be used in class only with the teacher’s permission. Devices should be in silent mode when on school property.
      • Students may only use audio, video and/or cameras at school with permission from a classroom teacher or administrator and the individuals being recorded.
      • Students must demonstrate positive digital citizenship which includes respecting yourself and others, protecting yourself and others, as well as respecting intellectual property.
