Throughout British Columbia seniors living in long-term care, assisted living and independent living communities have experienced isolation from family and friends because of COVID-19. The global pandemic has impacted access to visitors and recreational programs in such residences across B.C.
This project is funded in part by the Government of Canada's New Horizon for Seniors Program. BC Care Providers Association, along with EngAge BC and Health Arts Society have partnered up to provide a professional music experience to residents across B.C. virtually. The objectives and expected results of the virtual music program, Symphony for Seniors, are to reduce feelings of isolation, improve seniors' quality of life, improve seniors' mental health (particularly in terms of reducing anxiety leading to responsive behaviours), and to help homes adapt to a more virtual environment.
