The nominees for the awards are judged by the Let's Get to Work: Awards Committee composed of peers who understand the challenges, opportunities, and rewards inherent in the advancement of the fields of career and workforce development. The judges recognize the value of creativity and innovation, appreciate the complex demands of diverse environments, and recognize the role of champions in the field who enhance the quality of career development in Manitoba. To ensure that your nominee receives proper consideration, please take the time to be thoughtful and detailed when writing the nomination. This Committee will make decisions solely based on the information supplied in your nomination form.
- Provide comments that highlight the nominee’s overall contribution based on the list of criteria.
- Use specific and detailed rather than general praise. The more examples you can provide the better. Give examples of the nominee's accomplishments over time; don't just focus on one specific instance or occasion. Remember that the committee members reviewing recommendations can only base the decision on what you submit. Take your time to be specific. Help the committee members understand what this person has done. Imagine that none of them has ever met your nominee before, and go from there.
Explain in detail how this nomination is related to at least two of the awards criteria (Please note examples below prior to drafting your responses):

Nominations can be typed in narrative or bullet point format.
Example One
Don’t just say that “Jerry is really good with clients.” Be detailed! For example“Jerry takes the time to get to know his clients and is very careful to assess what they need and then to find the proper tools with which to work with them. He encourages his clients by taking the time to understand how they think. He follows up with them and gets them on track by using what motivates them. He recognizes that every client is different. He works with clients who have numerous barriers, but he has a placement rate of 82%. Most of his clients keep in touch with him to let him know how they are doing because he has made an impact on them, not because they have to.”
Example Two
Manitoba Career Program did a longitudinal research study with four Post-Secondary Institutions in Manitoba from 2010-20 to collect data on the backgrounds of students in Manitoba attending the institutions and learn about their paths during their degree. Information was collected on the faculty students first entered and their faculty/program of choice; on their occupational choice upon graduation; on the number of faculty changes that were done, whether they were able to get into the programs of their choices and the reasons that they were not able to get in; whether they were confident in their occupational decision; whether they received career counselling on campus or elsewhere; whether they participated in related work placements, coop or other experientials experiences; and whether they were employed full time in the occupation of their choice within 6 months of completing their PSE program. Four committed staff (names) at Manitoba Career Program worked on the study over 10 years. Further details are provided below on how the group decided to do the project, how they organized the advisory group, the challenges with getting access to the data required to do the project and how they overcame it, how they developed their research methodology as well as the three reports that were produced and how they have impacted career development programming.
Remember the deadline! It can be a challenge to find the time to put a really good nomination together, before the nomination process ends. Your hard work will be well worth it, so plan ahead!
